Chapter 238
Cecilia hadn’t even had lunch; she had been studying for over three hours.
She often had to stare through a microscope, straining her eyes. Everything was blurry then, and her stomach rumbled with hunger. She had to pause her research and grab something to eat.
Exiting the lab, she coincidentally bumped into Jeffrey.
It seemed as if he had been waiting for her, orchestrating that encounter deliberately.
“Professor Farsons. Taking a break, too?” she asked.
Jeffrey blinked and replied, “Yes, my eyes are uncomfortable, so I came out for a walk.”
“I thought researchers like you could stay in the laboratory all day, Professor Farsons,” Cecilia said.
“I used to, but now that I’m older, staying in one position for too long. makes me sore, especially my eyes. They get dry easily.”
Cecilia said, “I have some eye drops; would you like them, Professor Farsons?”
“No. Using eye drops excessively can lead to dependency. I rarely use them; I prefer to look into the distance for relief.” After saying that, Jeffrey went out of the laboratory.
Cecilia followed, asking, “Professor Farsons, any progress on the antid hope I’m not bothering you, but I’m really worried about
Christopher.”
Jeffrey reached the end of the corridor, gazing at the towering buildings around them.
“We have made progress, but we need further research to confirm it. Ms. Yancey, what are you doing in the laboratory?”
Cecilia thought, “Finally, getting to the point.”
Rubbing her growling stomach, she hesitantly said, “Professor Farsons, if you don’t mind, how about we go to the cafeteria? We can talk while we
eat.”
The cafeteria of the hospital was open to patients at designated hours but open to staff all day long.
The Ludly Atrikes Back
+5 your her:
It was because busy nurses and doctors often missed meal times, especially those in surgery whose schedules were unpredictable.
Cecilia purposely chose a spot out of the surveillance cameras‘ view, ordered a bowl of pasta, and said, “Professor Farsons, feel free to order. I’ll go wash my hands first.”
After saying that, she left.
In order to give Jeffrey enough time to make a move, she waited for five minutes before returning.
Her pasta was already served, and Jeffrey was eating fried rice.
He said apologetically, “I was really hungry, so I started without you. Don’t wait; the pasta will get clumped and become not delicious.” Cecilia sat down and inspected her pasta. “Indeed, they’re a bit clumped. I’ll get another bowl.”
After saying that, she asked the chef for a new bowl of pasta.
Jeffrey didn’t say anything, focusing on his fried rice. After he had finished, he brought up the previous topic.
“Ms. Yancey, you went to the laboratory before. Why didn’t you come to find me?”
“My grandmother was poisoned–the same way I asked you about earlier. I went to the lab to analyze the toxin’s components.”
“Any results?” After that, Jeffrey added, “If it’s inconvenient to talk about, you don’t have to.”
After Cecilia’s pasta had arrived, she said, “It’s indeed not very convenient.”
“It’s first.
Ms. Yancey. Take your time to eat. I’ll go back to the laboratory
After Jeffrey had left, Cecilia discreetly retrieved a tiny surveillance camera hidden under the table and put it in her pocket.
To avoid detection from Jeffrey, the mini surveillance camera wasn’t connected to the internet, but it could store the footage.
After eating her pasta, she glanced at the other bowl of untouched pasta and left the cafeteria.
Before returning to the laboratory, she checked on Evan and Christopher.
Evan had just woken up, groaning softly in his bed.
The True Lady Strikes Back
It wasn’t that he couldn’t bear the pain; the double agony was simply unbearable.
Christopher, on the other hand, was recovering well.
The poison was out of his system, and while the liver damage couldn’t be fully healed, it wouldn’t significantly affect him.
All that was left were trauma and gunshot wounds, which would take time to heal.
When Christopher saw Cecilia outside the sterile room, he smiled faintly.
He took out his phone and sent a message to Cecilia, asking about Elaine’s condition.
Cecilia briefly updated him before visiting Elaine.
Aiden was waiting outside the intensive care unit.
Meanwhile, Charlie had left due to his current status.
Upon seeing Cecilia approach, Aiden asked anxiously, “Ceci, how are you?”
Earlier, Elaine’s condition had worsened, but thanks to the doctors’ timely intervention, they managed to stabilize her.
“The poison and antidote components are very complex. It might take some time to develop the antidote. Moreover, the antidote provided by Wolf Killer has a flaw; it generates another poison after consumption.” After Aiden had heard that, his face turned grim. “Is the new poison easy to counter?”
“I’m working on it. There’s no progress yet.”
Biopharmaceuticals were highly intricate because when various
sul:
es interacted, continuous chemical reactions could occur. Only by understanding those reactions could one successfully develop an antidote.
Aiden looked at Elaine in the intensive care unit, his voice cold and deep as he said, “The attending doctor said that if Grandma Elaine experiences another episode, we can only try the antidote.”
Cecilia bit her lip. “Aiden, I have an idea that might save Grandma Elaine.”
Aiden’s deep eyes lit up after he heard that. “Ceci, what is it?”
