I could not see clearly at first. Though I was almost certain the person on stage was Nicholas, I was not the only one surprised when his side profile suddenly appeared on the big screen.

The performance schedule had been published long ago, and this man on stage was not a star at all. I heard people commenting that anyone hiding their face was surely ugly, at best he could only be called an average–looking guy.

On stage, he suddenly turned to face the audience, as if he already knew where I was. His gaze through the mask fell unerringly on me.

The whole place was in an uproar.

Nicholas was usually so composed, but he started running before leaping down from the stage. The audience immediately made way for him as he ran through, but my feet seemed rooted to the ground. I watched him getting closer and closer, unable to move a step.

Finally, he stood in front of me. Smiling wildly, his chest heaved a little. He asked me, “Did you hear it?”

I nodded stiffly. In those few short seconds, I did not know how much willpower I had to use to regain my

composure.

I only know that when he cupped my face and lowered his head to kiss me, the shock in my heart finally rippled out into reality.

But my interaction with Nicholas was limited to just this kiss. On the way back to the hotel, we sat on opposite sides of the car as if there was an uncrossable boundary between us.
