Inside the empty white building, Nicholas sat alone by the table as he glanced quietly outside the window. There was a look of calm desperation in his eyes.
It had been more than a month. He had listened to his doctor, ate his medications, and took all the necessary injections.
Everyone was telling him that he was getting better, but only he knew the truth. His condition was already beyond saving. He would always feel a sharp pain in his heart whenever he thought about me.
It had been more than a month, yet I, his wife, had never called him once. It was as if I didn’t care if he was dead or alive.
He would often think back and try to recall if he had ever done something so unforgivable to have me treat him so heartlessly.
However, he seemed to have lost a portion of his memory after emptying his brain for so long. Now, he could only recall the things that he had done for me.
As he thought about the things he had done for me and all the sacrifices he made, he was slowly filled with a sense of helplessness and resentment. Then, those emotions slowly morphed into despair.
He looked down at the divorce papers Claudia had sent him with a heavy gaze.
Claudia hugged him as she cried her heart out. She told him that I could not wait to divorce him and that he could decide for himself if he wanted to divorce me or not.
She had also claimed that she could not understand how a heartless woman like me could possibly deserve such a wonderful and perfect man like him.
Nicholas uncapped the pen and held the pen in his trembling hand. The next second, the pen hovered above his arm. He began to question if he was truly alright, but he knew he wasn’t.
He buried his head in his arms as he collapsed onto the table. He cried out in pain, like a trapped beast with no way out. Slowly, tears began to drip onto the table…
Claudia told him that she hated me. She hated me for my cruelty and heartlessness. So, he questioned himself if he hated me. He didn’t know.
He only knew that he had done everything he could to keep me by his side, but no matter how much he tried or how many tricks he used, he would always fail.
