Chapter 0051
Chapter 0051
Nicholas shook his head, seemingly disappointed in me. He turned on his heel and walked away.
I got up from the ground and called after him as he walked away. “I’ll speak with the police and prove have no connection to that man. You owe me an apology when this is resolved!”
l
He paused and turned back. “You know what truly happened. I’m going to press charges for attempted murder against that man from today. I want you to see the consequences of your actions. Someone will pay the price for what you’ve done, and Claudia will receive justice.”
Nicholas seemed to have regained his composure, his tone growing calmer as he continued, “Ariana, your career is just starting. Yet, you’re about to be involved in taking a life. Can you continue practicing law with a clear conscience?”
His tone was as grave as a judge’s, his words casting a heavy shadow on me. My blood ran cold at that moment.
Nicholas added with indifference, “Just wait and see.”
I couldn’t afford such a stain on my career. I couldn’t bear the burden of a baseless accusation, let alone the weight of someone’s life.
They said those consumed with proving their innocence often ended up in dire straits. Yet, my very survival depended on clearing my name. To protect myself, I had to locate that homeless man quickly. I needed answers as to why he unexpectedly attacked me.
The next day, I located the Hawks‘ driver from the day before and had him drive me straight to the police station where the homeless man was detained. I hoped to see him before he was formally taken into custody, but the police denied me entry.
It was only after disclosing my identity as Mrs. Hawk that I was granted a personal meeting with the chief. Despite his large belly, the chief moved with unexpected agility as he greeted me at the door.
His smile was welcoming as he extended his hand. “Mrs. Hawk, it’s delightful to have you here. I apologize for the oversight. My team wasn’t informed of your arrival. I hope you won’t take it personally.”
Just moments ago, the officers who had been loudly warning me not to interfere with their official duties suddenly became quiet, looking as timid as a group of startled birds.
“There’s nothing about that man that deserves your attention. He isn’t in his right mind, and it wouldn’t be good if he caused you any trouble. Let us handle these violent affairs.
