Trouble in Paradise (Arianna and Nicholas) novel Chapter 600

I didn't want to stay under the same roof as Nicholas, so I took my laptop and went to sit in the courtyard.

A while later, Nicholas found me. As he approached, the cool summer breeze swirled around him, carrying it to where he sat beside me.

"Tabitha finished eating, and her little belly's all round now," he said, a hint of pride in his tone. It was clear he was fishing for praise as if to say he could take excellent care of her.

I pretended not to hear and focused my attention on the laptop screen.

"Thank you for bringing Tabitha to me. The feeling of having someone in this world connected by blood is really incredible."

His voice was a little more dejected. "I've done so many wrong things in the past, and I thought I didn't deserve to have children in this life."

Nicholas paused for a moment.

Seeing that I wasn't going to respond, he continued, "Do you know how excited I was when I first found out Tabitha was my child? I couldn't sleep for two days. I practically wore out the report, afraid it was fake. Those days, I couldn't stop smiling. Just thinking about it made me grin."

I looked up at him. It was clear he was genuinely happy.

If it had been before, I would've been thrilled that my husband wanted to confide in me. But now, I didn't want to be his confidante. We weren't in that kind of relationship anymore.

I stayed silent.

Nicholas continued on his own, "Don't worry too much. My medical team has customized a treatment plan. When things settle down next week, we'll go to the hospital together, and we'll start the treatment.

"The earlier we begin intervention, the more likely she'll be just like any other normal child. No matter what, she's my precious little one."

"Okay."
