As Maria and Liam had joined them in the middle of the night, their vacation became even livelier, especially for the ladies. They had not seen each other in such a long time, so they talked for the whole night.
They went straight to a guest room, leaving the men downstairs.
The men could only start chatting downstairs, knowing that the ladies had things that they wanted to talk about on their own.
After all, unlike men, women tend to have people to vent their emotions to.
Thus, Gary had no choice but to allow it that time.
In the guest room upstairs, the ladies were covering themselves with the blankets as they sat together and chatted excitedly.
Maria was the most excited.
"Leah, tell me! How did you and Ernest get back together?" Maria looked exceptionally curious. "How did that happen? Did he beg for your forgiveness? Did he get humble?"
Leah felt helpless looking at her being so gossipy.
She chuckled. "Shouldn't you know more about Ernest than I do? Does he seem like the type who would beg for forgiveness?"
"That does make sense." Maria nodded. She practically grew up with Ernest. She knew him well.
Yet, she was still very curious, and she gave Leah a look with hidden meanings behind it. "So how did you two get back together? If he didn't beg for forgiveness, did he perhaps have his way with you? Did he forcefully bring you to bed? Was that how you two get back together?"
Leah's cheeks flushed and she laughed wildly. "How can you ask such a question in front of Celeste?"
Celeste knew Maria well too, hence she was not surprised at her question.
However, she still spoke up for Leah to help her out the awkward situation.
"Maria, when did Leah break up with Ernest?" Celeste was surprised about that instead. "Why did I not hear of this? When did it happen?"
The other two were startled after hearing her question. They both kept quiet, as they thought of the reasons behind it.
For a moment there, the room was filled with silence.
Celeste felt odd, and she was puzzled at their expressions.
"Did something happen when I was at Boston?" Celeste asked again.
Maria shook her head as she twitched her lips. "Actually, it's nothing."
Leah was in a daze.
Maria took in her expression and then quickly explained, "They were just having a quarrel, and the break up was just an impulsive decision. I don't know how to explain it, but Leah was feeling like Ernest didn't love her enough at that time. We are always hung up on matters like these, aren't we?"
Celeste was also startled. She wanted to say something after hearing Maria's words, but she couldn't come up with anything.
Leah finally came back to her senses and said, "Yes, it's nothing too serious. I was feeling insecure back then, thinking that he was still in love with some other woman and didn't love me enough. That's why I ended things with him. However, I realized I still couldn't move on from him after the break up. I couldn't stop thinking about him, and then he came to me. So, I couldn't help it, and agreed to get back together with him."
Leah was being truthful, as if she was reading her
own behaviors.
There was nothing for her to hide.
Of course, except for the fact that they broke up because of Celeste.
After all, it was Ernest's one- sided feelings. Celeste was not involved in it.
Leah would never take it out on Celeste, as she was clear about it, and she would keep the matters separated.
She also believed that things weren't that easy for Celeste either.
Why would she give Celeste a hard time when Celeste was clueless about it since the beginning? She had never promised Ernest anything.
She was in no place to blame it on Celeste.
Although it was a little awkward for Celeste to ask her that question then, Leah was still able to adjust her emotions quickly and dealt with it with a smile.
Maria gave her a thumbs-up. She respected Leah's honesty and also for not hurting Celeste.
