Gary subconsciously looked towards Celeste's direction. Celeste was looking at him as she lay on the bed, blushing. The phone call had saved her, otherwise, she would have been taken in wholly by Gary again.
Seeing that he was on the pone, Celeste immediately got up and went to the bathroom.
Gary made a sound of acknowledgment over the phone.
"Celeste won't be able to hear the phone call, right?" Lowell asked him once more.
Gary looked at Celeste's departing figure and said, "Just say what you want to say. She is going to the bathroom now."
"Listen carefully, Janice has been pregnant with your child for three months now," Lowell said in a deep voice. His tone was serious, and he even sounded a little disappointed.
"What did you say?" Gary suddenly raised his voice.
Lowell's tone was particularly serious and calm. "You didn't mishear me. Janice is really pregnant with your child. According to the timeline, it should be around the time you broke up with Celeste. What happened between you two when you were drunk once? I believe that you can still remember it."
In that instant, Gary was speechless.
His silence made Lowell frown, and he spoke in a somewhat displeased and serious tone, "I thought that Janice was spreading rumors, but I did not expect her to have even done a DNA test to prove that the child was yours too."
Gary fell even quieter. A sharp glint flashed across his eyes.
"How are we going to handle this matter?" After a moment of silence, Lowell still asked him for his opinion.
Gary narrowed his eyes, he asked in a deep voice, "How did you know about this matter?"
Lowell was taken aback by the question. "I discovered it by accident!"
"Hmph!" Gary laughed coldly. "You met her by chance? Don't you think that it might be another one of Janice's tricks?"
"Then tell me, is the child in her womb yours? Could the DNA test results be faked?"
Gary did not speak. However, Lowell could hear his breathing getting heavier and heavier.
Lowell's intuition told him that the matter was not that simple.
Lowell thought for a moment and still remained rational. "If you are sure that it is not yours, then I will help you to handle the remaining matters. If you aren't sure, you can still tell me your solution, and I can help you execute it."
"I will take care of this matter personally," Gary said in a cold tone.
"What about Celeste?" Lowell asked with worry.
"She can stay here and celebrate the Spring Festival herself. I will take care of this matter on my own. I'll be back in two days." Gary gripped the phone tightly. "Help me keep an eye on that woman first. Do not let her do anything that will harm Celeste."
Lowell was also shocked when he heard that. It seemed that the child in Janice's belly might really have something to do with Gary.
Otherwise, how could Janice be so sure and arrogant?
Celeste went to the bathroom, and she came out after she had washed herself up.
When she came out of the bathroom, Gary had already ended his call.
"Is Uncle Lowell coming back to celebrate the Spring Festival?" Celeste asked him.
Gary's expression was slightly dazed. He seemed to have come back to his senses and hurriedly looked at Celeste. His shallow gaze landed on her face. When he looked into Celeste's eyes, he immediately avoided it, as he dared not to look straight at her.
"He isn't," Gary said.
"Really?" Celeste sighed regretfully. "Back then, when she was chatting with Aunt Smith, she also hoped that Lowell could come back for the Spring Festival. Why don't you try to persuade him?"
Gary was obviously a little absent-minded. He did not answer Celeste's question but said directly, "I have something urgent to attend to. I have to return to Boston for five days at most."
Celeste was a little surprised. "What's the matter? We just came back. Does it have something to do with your company?"
"Yes," Gary replied in an indifferent manner.
"Well, do you want me to go with you?" Celeste was worried about what Gary would say if she didn't go, so she took the initiative to ask for his opinion.
"No need. You can stay." Gary turned around. He did not even look at Celeste, and he was just talking on his own, "I'll be able to settle the matters quickly and come back. You can rest for a while. I'm worried that you'll be unable to bear the long journey."
Celeste was happy to hear such an arrangement at first, but Gary was turning his back to her. It was obvious that he was avoiding her. She couldn't help but to feel a little strange.
It must be an extremely serious matter to require him to go back to Boston at once.
Seeing how absent-minded he was, Celeste did not overthink it, as she thought that it was just something about his company.
Gary was still acting that way, with his back to Celeste. She couldn't tell what was on his mind.
It seemed that something serious had happened.
Celeste pondered for a moment before she said, "Let me come with you, you don't have to worry about me. I am not that weak. At least I will still be able to take care of you."
For Celeste, she had a simple mind. She just wanted to take good care of Gary, so he would not have anything to worry about.
However, when Gary heard that, he immediately turned around and told Celeste, "I already said that I don't need you to go. I don't need you to take care of me. Just take care of yourself and wait for me to come back. Be good, okay? I have to book a flight now."
Celeste was a little surprised at how anxious he was.
"Can't I come with you?" Celeste hesitated but still asked.
Gary's body stiffened. He pursed his lips and said, "Celeste, there are some things I need to deal with. I will tell you about it when I come back. This time, I have been set up. I need to focus on dealing with this. If you go, I will be distracted."
