Sylvia soon disappeared from his sight as she walked to the stairs. The sensory lights in the hallway were dimmed again. Kendrix cleared his throat, and the lights turned on again.
He didn't seem to have come to his senses yet and he just kept standing at the door.
It was not until a long time later that he came to his senses, he carried the two big food containers, and turned back into the apartment.
The door was closed behind him.
The room was cold, and the bright lights did not warm the loneliness in the room even by a bit.
Kendrix sat at the table, opened the food containers, and put all the food on the table.
All were delicacies with an extensive varieties of colors, aromas, and there were also exquisite desserts. It all looked splendid and sumptuous.
His eyes were fixed on those dishes, his gaze not moving an inch, yet for quite a while he didn't touch the food.
What surprised him was that Sylvia actually personally brought the food over.
He had been really harsh with his words to her that day, and he thought that it would end things between them. Why did she still go and send him those things?
Kendrix frowned hard with an unfathomable emotion in his deep eyes.
He really didn't understand girls.
He didn't know at all what the girl was thinking.
However, the little princess of the the Jones family really surprised him.
He admitted that he was touched by her actions that night.
He looked at the food for a long time as time passed by slowly.
When he came to his senses again, a warm smile appeared on his lips.
He suddenly felt that he was a little fortunate.
It didn't take more than three minutes for Sylvia to reach the downstairs of Kendrix's place.
After the driver went down, he had been very worried. He had been carefully looking at the direction of the apartment. He was afraid that he couldn't afford to pay the price if anything happened to Sylvia.
Seeing the young lady came back so quickly, the driver was also very surprised, but he immediately breathed a sigh of relief as he proceeded to open the car door for Sylvia.
"Miss Jones, are we going home now?" The driver asked with respect.
"Yes, back home," Sylvia answered with a faint smile on her lips.
Her heart had finally calmed down then.
She didn't say anything or ask for anything, but she finally got to see Kendrix.
Also, as far as Kendrix would understand, she actually refused his offer.
God knew how much self-control was needed for her to do so.
Sylvia thought that it definitely wasn't easy at all that she was able to do it.
From that day on, Sylvia knew that she had to adjust her pace and her plans, or else she would never be able to control the situation.
Fortunately, Kendrix did not reject her gifts, and he even invited her in.
That was a good sign.
Sylvia was very happy, at least he didn't dislike her.
That was enough.
All that fully proved that it was probably due to their age difference and his concern for their identities, for him to have treated her so coldly previously.
After all, Kendrix was her teacher.
On the way back, she kept looking out of the window, watching the neon lights flashing by. The lights sparkled in her eyes, so dazzling and illusory.
Regardless, there was a faint smile remaining on her lips.
After returning home, the family's dinner was still ongoing.
Seeing her daughter returning, Grace was very surprised. It seemed that she did not expect her daughter to come back so soon.
"Sylvia, why are you back so soon?"
"I came back right after sending him the things." Sylvia chuckled, "Mommy, I'll go wash my hands before continuing to eat."
"Okay." Grace nodded. "You don't have to rush. There's food left for you."
"Okay, thank you, mommy."
The whole family found that Sylvia seemed to have changed, and the little devil had become calmer and quieter.
She wasn't like how lame she was back then, always pulling pranks. She just quietly went to wash her hands and quietly came back, sitting back on her seat while eating her food.
It felt like everything about her had changed since she left earlier.
Before that, she seemed as if there was a hint of sorrow between her brows. Yet, there was more of a peacefulness and calmness about her then.
She looked so beautiful, full of vitality, and she was very cute.
Gary glanced at his sister and saw that she seemed to be in high spirits. He was pleased upon seeing that.
No one asked her about how it went with Kendrix, everyone was just happy to see the change in her.
That was because that change meant a sort of hope.
Her eyes grew moist from her emotions. Looking at her daughter's little face, she knew how much her daughter had suffered, because to be patient meant suffering.
"Sylvia, you're really awesome," Grace said, "Really."
"Yes, because I am both you and daddy's daughter." Sylvia chuckled and gave a thumbs-up, then continued to eat.
Grace wiped the tears from the corners of her eyes and sighed. Her children had really grown up.
After eating a little more, Sylvia suddenly remembered that her dad wasn't at home. She looked towards the living room and found that everyone had gone up to their rooms.
After Gary left, she asked her mother, "Mom, tell me the truth, did dad go to look for Celeste?"
"Yes." Grace didn't try to hide it from Sylvia. "He went to look for her. It's the Spring Festival, and we are worried for Celeste to be all alone out there."
Sylvia lowered her eyes and stared blankly at her plate.
"Sylvia, do you have something to say?" Grace noticed that it was as if Sylvia had something to say.
Sylvia raised her head and looked at her mother, "Mommy, I am not sure if it's appropriate for me to say this."
"It's okay, tell me," Grace said bluntly, "We're a family, what's so inappropriate for you to say?"
"I just don't think Celeste loves Gary that much," Sylvia said as she looked at Grace.
In fact, she was very worried that her mother would get angry because of her words, and it might affect her mother's pregnancy.
Grace paused for a moment. Heinz had said the same exact words before as well.
She paused for a little, and she wasn't in a hurry to reply.
Seeing that her mother was not too agitated, Sylvia could then confirm that she wasn't angry, and only then did she continue on.
"Mom, I know Gary is a very prideful person, but he did a lot for Celeste and sacrificed a lot for her. Celeste is also quite a pitiful person, but none of us did anything wrong to her. For her to leave just like that, it's really irresponsible for her. That's the same to us, as well as to herself. It also showed that her love for Gary wasn't deep enough," Sylvia said, "Perhaps you might think I'm having a prejudice against her, but seeing how Gary looks so absent-minded because of her, I still would feel sorry for him. He was such a prideful person back then, yet for her he's become as if he has no soul at all, that's why I dislike her a little."
"Sylvia," Grace said softly.
"Mommy, don't be agitated." Sylvia was afraid that her mother would get angry, and she was so frightened that her face changed.
Grace shook her head, "I'm not agitated, I just think that none of us have ever experienced what Celeste had experienced before, and so we have no rights at all to judge."
"However, I can tell that Gary loves her very much," Sylvia said seriously, "At the Press conference, Gary announced it in such a way which any girl would've been so touched. They would be able to understand what's true and what's not. Yet, Celeste still decided to leave."
Grace sighed.
"So, I'm very sad," Sylvia said while lowering her head. "If daddy manages to bring Celeste back this time, perhaps it would be the best. However, if he can't, please don't insist on making them continue on their relationship anymore."
Gary was there standing by the stairs. He was dumbstruck and he didn't move an inch.
He didn't expect that his youngest sister would be so protective of him behind his back.
