Standing at the entrance of the kitchen, Jensen had no idea what to do. He was still overwhelmed with shock and stayed rooted to the ground.
While Alice was setting up the table, she realized that there was something wrong with Jensen. After hesitating for a moment, she walked towards him.
When Alice got to Jensen's side, she craned her neck to have a peek at the kitchen. Her jaw dropped right away.
She grabbed Jensen by his sleeve. Pointing inside, she mouthed at him, "What's going on?"
Jensen shook his head and replied, "How would I know?"
Alice pulled him over to the other side.
She sensed that something was not quite right. And also, she did not want to put Grace and Tyler on the spot if they discovered that they were being watched.
As soon as Alice and Jensen walked away from the kitchen, they heard Tyler's voice. "Alright, go out and wait for dinner. I'll do the rest." "I'm fine," Grace said. "Don't make a fuss about it, Tyler."
While Grace was talking, she noticed Jensen and Alice had turned to look at them with probing eyes, which was out of the ordinary.
She was surprised and said, "You must be hungry."
"No," Alice immediately shook her head, her tone sounded nervous.
Jensen gave a gentle smile and added, "I'm not hungry yet."
His sharp gaze ran over Grace's face. He noticed that her eyes were red, as if she had been crying. He hazarded a guess that Tyler was comforting her when she broke down in the kitchen.
For a woman to weep in a man's arms, their relationship had to be intimate.
Jensen's eyes darkened. He drew his brows together, seeming worried about the connection between Grace and Tyler.
Grace seemed to be preoccupied and did not respond to Jensen. She turned to face Alice and said "Alice, can you help Tyler? I'll be back soon."
With that, she went back to her room.
Alice responded, "Okay. I'll help Brother Tyler with the rest."
When they were back in the kitchen, Tyler remained silent as if nothing had happened.
Alice threw him a suspicious look. Her gaze went from the food to the plate, then to the pot, and finally locked on Tyler's face.
"Why are you looking at me?" Tyler had long noticed that Alice had been staring at him with probing and penetrating eyes, which was bizarre.
"Oh. Nothing." Alice quickly denied. "I'm just curious about the reason you're back."
"I'm planning to settle down. Get married and make a mark in my career," Tyler said in a casual way. "Why are you so curious about my return?"
"Get married?" Alice's eyes lit up with excitement. "Do you have somebody in mind?"
Tyler's eyes flashed. He lifted the corner of his mouth and said, "Are you trying to trick me into telling you what you want to know?"
"Don't act like we are strangers," Alice giggled. "Why would I trick you? I'm just showing concern for you."
Tyler narrowed his eyes and curved his lips into a big smile. "You should be concerned about the man outside, that boyfriend of yours. He is the one you should care about."
Alice pressed her lips together and said, "Brother Tyler, you're really cunning. I was just asking, and you're on your guard. Are we even friends?"
Tyler remained composed and smiled, "I'm just learning from you. Haven't you always been like this?"
Alice was rendered speechless. She let out a long sigh, "But I wasn't on my guard against you."
"That's because you're not treating me like a man." Tyler hit the nail on the head. "Alice, I realized that you're being too vigilant and it's unnecessary. I think you should take it easy. Don't burn yourself out."
