Brother-in-law?
Heinz Jones was in a state of confusion. He frowned and stared at his mobile phone before glancing at Grace. He continued to furrow his eyebrows and asked the person on the other end of the line, "Are you sure you're Alice Smith?"
Alice was perplexed.
"Yes, I'm Alice," Alice answered.
"That's impossible," Heinz replied in a low voice.
Alice would not suddenly regard him as her 'brother-in-law'. This was too strange.
"Why not?" Alice retorted, "You don't believe that I'm Alice?"
"Yes." Heinz admitted and added, "You aren't Alice."
"Oh my god!" Alice exclaimed, "Then who am I if I'm not Alice? Have you lost your mind?"
Meanwhile, Grace was taken aback too. Why did it feel like Heinz was doubting her sister?
Grace could not help but whisper, "That's my sister. It's my sister's phone number."
Heinz frowned when he heard Grace's explanation. He was still a little uncertain.
"Are you sure that you're Alice?" Heinz asked.
"Well, Heinz." Alice did not know how she should react to Heinz's response. She explained helplessly, "You're shocked because I said you're my brother-in-law, right?"
Heinz was a little embarrassed but Heinz did not show it. He snorted softly and asked, "Go ahead, what do you want?"
Heinz had an inexplicably hunch that Alice had ulterior motives.
Err!
No!
It was rude for him to doubt his own future sister-in-law like that.
Heinz coughed and cleared his throat. "I mean you can just tell me if you need anything."
Alice was at a loss for words while holding onto her mobile phone. She wanted to kick Heinz but she held back because she had a favor to ask.
"Well, Heinz," Alice answered, "I do have something to ask you."
"Speak." Heinz was very straightforward.
"Is my sister beside you?" Alice did not want to frighten her sister.
"Of course." Heinz stole a glance at Grace and then said to her, "Grace, make me a cup of tea, please. It's your sister. I was worried it wasn't her."
"That's great." Grace heaved a sigh of relief and added, "Give me a minute."
Heinz waited for Grace to go to the kitchen and asked Alice, "What happened?"
"Well, don't tell my sister but I encountered some problems today," Alice answered.
Heinz was taken aback. His expression turned solemn and he asked seriously, "What's going on?"
"I was assaulted," Alice explained, "It was Jensen's enemy. I'm telling you because I'm worried that someone might harm my sister and my nephew. I'm letting you know so that you could hire people to protect them."
"No problem." Heinz agreed swiftly. He asked, "Are you injured?"
"I'm fine," Alice replied, "I'm with Jensen right now."
"Ask him to call me later," Heinz asked, "Do you know who assaulted you?"
"I think Jensen knows."
"Okay," Heinz immediately replied in a resolute manner, "I'm going to Hart Villa District for you guys now."
"Huh? You're coming over now?" Alice was startled. "It's so late though."
"I'll be worried if I don't go," Heinz replied in a low voice.
"But my sister will be worried."
"I won't tell her," Heinz assured.
"Okay."
