Candace was not furious. She sneered on the phone and asked, "What retribution will I have? Is there anyone in this world who is more miserable than I am now? Can I be more miserable? I am your mother and I am the person who gave you life, anyway. However, not only do you disrespect me, you even curse me. Aren't you afraid of retribution?"
Her logic really made Grace speechless.
Grace's tone became more indifferent, and she retorted, "You should be grateful that you are the person who gave us life. Otherwise, do you think I would pick up your call and waste my breath on you?"
"That's more than enough since I've given you life," Candace said in a low voice. "Without the beauty and wisdom that I've given you, could you have found a man like Heinz?"
Grace's gaze was full of despair. She really felt that her heart was also in pain.
Such a mother who thought that she was excellent in every aspect really made others speechless.
She held her phone and replied indifferently, "No matter what your real purpose is, I just want to tell you that it is impossible for you to borrow money from Heinz."
Candace scoffed, "I guess it's you who stopped him, right? Heinz is really a gossipy b*stard. He even tells you these kinds of trivial matters. What a man who has no mind of his own." She said with a disgusted tone, "He's really bringing bad luck. I think you'd better not be with him. He's not suitable for you."
"Your real purpose is to separate Heinz and I, isn't it?" Grace questioned coldly. "What is your motive for doing so? Are you happy to break us up?"
"Both of you are indeed not suitable for each other." Candace replied, "If you two are suitable for each other, nothing like what the news claimed would happen. It can be seen that both of you are not suitable for each other."
When the news was brought up again, Grace's heart was stung once again.
On the contrary, she was much calmer and argued unfeelingly, "Whether we are suitable for each other, it's our own business. It has nothing to do with you."
"Forget it. You won't listen to me," Candace said. "You'll be devastated once you break up in the future." "It's my business whether or not to be devastated," Grace retorted. She couldn't stand Candace hurting her like this, "You don't have to say much. No matter whether Lowell is your child or not, I have decided to raise him."
"But before that, I have to warn you that it is hard for people whom I raise to have feelings for you. You have already lost Alice and me. If you lose your last son again, you will be left alone in the future," Grace warned.
"I don't care," Candace replied, "I don't need that many so-called 'valuable relationships' in my life. Since you love to raise a child that much, you may raise him. Alice, whom you raised, is not bad too. Except for going out with a poor policeman, everything about her is pretty good."
"Candace, are you still human?" Grace criticized. Her heart ached even more. She always felt like she was tricking her to raise a child for her.
"How can you talk to me like that?" Candace reprimanded her, "If I'm not a human being, what are you since you are my child?"
Grace leaned back against the chair and looked at the ceiling. She felt that Candace was deliberately making her upset.
She didn't know everything about Candace now, but she seemed to know everything about her. That was why Candace was torturing her in this way.
Grace felt that if she was really affected by her, she would really be trapped. She could not let her be so satisfied.
She sneered, "I think you must be anxious now since you couldn't achieve your real purpose. Hence, you come looking for me again and again. You want to meet me, don't you?"
Candace, who was on the other end of the line, seemed to be in shock for a moment and didn't answer for a few seconds.
Grace knew it. She knew that her purpose would not be so simple.
She smirked a little and a touch of calm appeared in her gaze. "You want to infuriate me and force me to go out and meet you, don't you? Your purpose is not as simple as to just borrow money. All the methods you've used to infuriate me are to force me to meet you, right?"
Candace was no longer calm. She argued on the phone, "Who wants to meet you? Why should I meet you? Don't think so highly of yourself."
"I also hope that I'm just thinking highly of myself." Grace smiled a little and was no longer on the fence. "Whether it's right or wrong, I won't meet you. Don't call me again."
After that, she hung up the phone.
When Heinz saw Grace's face, his heart ached for her as well.
A mother should not have said something like that. However, Candace was such a person.
