It was a heart wrenching moment for Grace as she heard her mother's groans.

She felt that it was unfair if God's punishment for a person didn't come in time, but when it did, it was torture.

What was worse was that she could not take it as the person who was suffering was her mother.

Even though the mother-daughter relationship did not last a long time, this woman was still pregnant with her for ten months before giving birth to her.

Grace just couldn't bear to see her in such pain. Tears pooled in her eyes and she looked at Heinz.

He held onto her hand tightly, as though telling her that she should let her mother have some dignity in her final moments.

She knew that he was right.

She gently turned around and stood by the door. She lowered her head slightly and a tear fell to the ground.

She heard the sound of footsteps when the doctors and the nurses rushed over quickly. They pushed the door open together and went into the ward.

Grace stood at the door. She was baffled and looked at Heinz again.

He felt distressed. He shook his head at her and motioned for her not to go in.

She pursed her lips and pulled her hand from Heinz's grip gently. She squatted on the ground, hugged herself with her hands, buried her face in her knees, and did not move for a long time.

Alice and Lowell looked at her carefully with their reddened eyes, but no one said anything.

They could hear urgent voices.

The doctor said apprehensively, "Oh, no! The ascites are back again. How is it back since we had just drained it? Now, it should be because the liver has probably stopped working. We have to make another drainage as soon as possible."

Candace shouted anxiously, "Doctor, it hurts! Give me an analgesic injection, I can't take it anymore!"

Listening to the bustle inside, nobody said a word. Grace's shoulders trembled slightly and she squatted on the ground and stayed there.

Heinz also squatted down in front of her. Without saying a word, he reached out and tenderly put his hand on her shoulder.

She was stunned and still did not look up. She was afraid that someone would see her crying.

She used to think that she would never shed a tear for her mother in her life, but when the daunting reality came, tears came easily.

She found out that she actually had affection and attachment to her mother and she could even feel her pain.

She realized that she still loved her mother. Although she used to hate her, at the moment, she felt that she still loved her.

She wished that her mother was not ill.

The doctor had been inside for more than an hour and she had also been squatting on the ground for that period of time. Heinz accompanied her in the same position.

Alice and Lowell stood beside them. When they heard the sound of the emergency treatment from inside, their eyes were red and they said nothing.

It was not until a long time later that the doctor came out of the ward, the sound of opening the door surprised Grace and she stood up.

Staggering, she almost could not stand firmly.

She had been squatting for too long and her feet were numb.

Heinz held her up, and they stood before the doctor.

The doctor looked tired and said, "Mr. Jones, Madam Smith, you have to be mentally prepared. Madam Lowe's condition is getting worse. She might not be able to last two months."
