Chapter 142
Daphne couldn’t believe her ears. “You weren’t like this before, Yvvy.”
Yvette used to act so high and mighty. Why would she leave Xaver for money now?
“Is the title of Mrs. Lane not worth ten billion dollars?” Yvette asked in return.
Daphne laughed. “You’ve really changed. I still remember what you told me during our university days. You said you’d never fight me for a man. It turns out you didn’t just take my man; you’re even asking for money before I can have him back.”
She was exceptionally well–versed in playing the victim.
There was nothing but mockery behind Yvette’s eyes. ‘Everyone knows that it was Xavier who didn’t want an orphan like you–I didn’t take anything from you.”
Daphne’s face contorted with rage. “That’s enough! Are you sure money is all you’re after?”
Yvette nodded. “I hope you can keep this conversation between us. If you tell him I asked you for money, the deal is off. I’ll never leave him alone, and you’ll never become Mrs. Lane.”
Yvette said this on purpose–she wanted Daphne to tell Xavier. She had a plan of her own in case Daphne went ahead and told him.
On the other hand, if Daphne actually went ahead and prepared ten billion dollars, Yvette would be more than glad to accept it from her.
Despite everything, she was still confident that Daphne would choose to snitch on her.
It was the norm for her, after all. In the past, Daphne used to frame Yvette for things that she hadn’t done. Hence, there was probably no way she would let this opportunity slip by.
“I’ll think about it,” Daphne declared before taking her leave.
Before she left the room, she caught a glimpse of the music sheets on Yvette’s desk.
She felt a bit puzzled, but she didn’t think much of it. Someone with a hearing problem couldn’t possibly have had any affinity for music anyway.
Little did she know that Yvette was actually the talented foreign composer, Cameron.
After Daphne left, Yvette gradually put away her music sheets before lying down on her bed. Meanwhile, Daphne was still figuring out a way to tell Xavier about Yvette’s request. If she told him bluntly, he would never believe her. She had tattled on Yvette too many times before.
After a short moment, she got an idea. She decided to give Yvette a portion of the money in advance. She just needed Xavier to catch Yvette with the money.

The next morning, Daphne had someone prepare breakfast. She seemed to think of herself as the lady of the household.
Yvette was constantly exhausted and would often wake up at later hours. While she was still in bed, there was already a breakfast spread prepared in the dining room.
Xavier was already home and was seated in the living room.
“Breakfast is ready, Xav,” Daphne called.
He shot her a brief glance. “I’ve already had my breakfast. You should head home after you’ve to stay had yours as well. If you find it inconvenient to return to your house, I’ll arrange for you at a hotel.”
