Watching Amelia keep quiet made Gideon feel surprisingly irritated. His body felt slightly warm, and his throat was dry. Hence, he reached for the unfinished bubble tea on the table and took a sip.
After setting down the drink, he retrieved a project proposal from his briefcase and placed it on the table. "I've been thinking of setting up an accounting firm and am looking for a suitable partner. Have a look at this proposal and see if you're interested in joining."
Seeing the project proposal on the table caused a surge of warmth to rise within Amelia. She knew he was doing everything he could to help her, yet she didn't know how to voice out how touched yet conflicted she felt.
Amelia had received so much assistance from Gideon and owed him far too much. Since she was unable to repay him, she shouldn't continue being so greedy.
But Amelia also had her own desires. She had been through so many hardships with Eli for so many years and didn't want to continue living such a life.
She wanted Eli to have a better life. If she missed out on this opportunity, she might not have another chance to turn things around. "I…"
"You don't have to give me an answer immediately. Look over the proposal first and think about it before you give me an answer," Gideon interrupted her.
He suddenly got up. "It's getting late, so I'll make a move first. Rest early."
"Sure. I'll walk you out." Amelia quickly stood up to send him off. However, she ended up tripping against the chair leg by accident and toppled forward.
Gideon reacted quickly by steadying her. As their hands touched, Amelia suddenly felt a tingling feeling all over her body. The odd sensation from earlier seemed to heighten instantly, causing her to tremble and feel warm everywhere.
That was a familiar sensation. It was similar to how she felt after having her drink spiked last time. However, she was at home. How could that have happened to her?
"Are you alright?" Her flushed cheeks made Gideon notice something was off.
Amelia shook her head. She wanted to stand up, but she was unable to gain her balance since her legs felt weak.
"Why is your body so warm?" Gideon realized something was amiss, so he led her to sit on the couch.
