And then there was the whole idea of talking to Keith. Yeah, right, like those two could have a conversation without it turning into a full-blown brawl in under a few sentences.
"No need, you're still injured. You should go rest."
She couldn't just let them keep going at it. Taking Finnian by the wrist, Amara guided him back towards the hospital bed.
Finnian glanced down at her hand on his wrist but didn't pull away. He let her lead him.
"Take a rest, okay? I'll be back in a bit."
She gently pushed him onto the bed, tugging the covers over his legs before turning on her heel towards Keith. Her voice turned a bit more commanding.
"Come with me."
Keith lounged on the couch, lazily protesting, "I don't feel like moving."
Amara was left speechless. What a dog! She grabbed his hand, dragging him out of the room despite his reluctance.
"What the heck was that just now? Were you trying to start something?"
Amara released him once they were in the stairwell. She huffed, "Don't you think I have enough chaos to deal with?"
"How could it be? Don't get mad. I was just looking out for you, making sure you weren't getting pushed around."
"Yeah, right," she scoffed. "I'm not getting involved with you."
"What, you think I'm not in your league?" Keith countered agitatedly, standing up straight and thumping his chest. "How am I not good for you? I'm handsome, successful, the standing of our families matches, and most importantly, I treat you nicely."
He rattled off his virtues, earning a playful eye roll from Amara, who was confused about why the sudden seriousness.
She hardly thought Keith had feelings for her, probably just joking around. Dismissive, she uttered, "Your career's too successful. If I ended up with you, your fangirls would tear me apart. No thanks."
As Amara spoke, she cracked into a smile, giving him a light punch. Keith shrugged it off, about to respond when suddenly, the stairwell door swung open with a bang.
They both paused, turning to see Finnian standing in the doorway, eyes dark and fixed on them.
