"Finn, are you saying over a month ago..."
"Yes," Finnian replied flatly, nodding. "Do you remember?"
Liliana bit her lip hard. Of course, she remembered.
Just over a month ago, she’d walked up to Finnian with a pregnancy test in hand, telling him she was expecting.
Back then, Finnian had told her his grandmother had passed away, that he and Amara would be getting a divorce soon, but he wouldn't marry again, nor even date anyone.
Then he pulled out a card from his desk and handed it to her, suggesting she terminate the pregnancy.
She had burst into tears right there, reminding him how she'd saved his life on the construction site years ago. She poured her heart out, saying she regretted breaking up with him and had been waiting for him all these years. She confessed she'd gone through so much and still had strong feelings for him.
Playing the emotional card and shedding a river of tears, she eventually got Finnian to agree to let her keep the baby. But that was it—just the baby. No promises beyond that.
Liliana clenched her fists, feeling a huge wave of panic wash over her.
Finnian looked at her belly in silence. His reasoning back then was straightforward. First, Liliana was desperate to keep the baby, constantly reminding him of how she saved his life and the complications that followed.
Second, he figured since he wasn’t planning to marry, having a child might not be so bad—a bit of emotional solace. So, he agreed. But he hadn't foreseen things turning out like this.
Liliana reached for his hand, her usual confident demeanor now replaced with vulnerability.
