The ambience in the bedroom instantly tensed up. Maxwell’s gripped the specialist and stared at him with his unfathomable and sharp eyes as if he wished to see through the specialist.
The specialist shivered, but he still toughed it out, “I was mentioning the one who has meager knowledge about medicine but was smattering just now.”
“Let go of him! Did he say the wrong thing? Do you have a medical practitioner’s qualification certificate?” Another doctor who was standing aside chimed in. He was the best specialist in cardiovascular and cerebrovascular diseases in Ocean City and was also invited to here to have this experts’ meeting with an aim to find a way to prolong the patient’s life-span.
“Qualification certificate?” Maxwell was stunned for a while and then shook his head, “I don’t have it.”
“Then which medical school did you graduate from?” The doctor fixed his eyes on Maxwell and asked aggressively.
“I didn’t graduate from a medical school.” Maxwell replied blandly.
“Who do you think you are since you don’t have a medical practitioner’s qualification certificate and didn’t graduate from a medical school?” The doctor reprimanded in a stern voice, “Are you a barefoot doctor?”
[Note: Barefoot doctors were healthcare providers who underwent basic medical training and worked in rural villages in China.]
“Turns out he’s just a barefoot doctor. I thought he’s a master… That makes sense. He looks so young, how can it be possible that he’s proficient in medicine…”
All of a sudden, everyone in the bedroom glanced at Maxwell with some different emotions in their gazes – there were some more traces of contempt and sarcasm. The way they looked at Maxwell was like they were looking at a charlatan.
“Mr. Absalom, we came all the way to treat the patient, not to handle with a hypocritical charlatan. Even if I didn’t cure the patient’s disease, how can you use this kind of person to humiliate me?” The doctor who was grabbed by Maxwell pushed his hand away and rebuked in a stern voice.
“Although I’m not as outstanding as the first-class experts overseas, I’m not someone who can be bullied by others at will. If you don’t accept our medical diagnosis, we can just leave.” Another doctor looked at Maxwell coldly.
“Please don’t leave. Mr. Absalom was just so anxious that he resorted to every possible means and found the wrong person…” The middle-aged man who was in suit was clutched by anxiety and smiled fawningly. He then turned around and ordered Maxwell coldly, “Hurry to get out. Without my or Mr. Absalom’s order, you’re not allowed to step into this bedroom!”
“Are you sure?” Maxwell glanced at the middle-aged man meaningfully.
“Of course! Hurry up to get lost!” The crowd in the bedroom quieted down. The gazes falling on Maxwell and Greta were quite scornful after the middle-aged man in suit finally couldn’t bear it any longer and began to drive them out.
The bedroom was prevailed by silence. Andreas, who was standing at a corner, gradually curled his lips into a cold smile when he saw this scene.
“Yo, your trick is exposed. Now you continue to stay here and refuse to leave? ‘Follow the man you marry, be he fowl or cur’, you’re really a good practitioner of this old saying. You and your husband are really cheeky.” Allison sneered with sarcasm and humiliated them verbally.
“Someone said he knew about medicine, didn’t he? He had never studied in a medical school and had just studied from a quack doctor for several days, yet he had the guts to swindle others. How hypocritical!” Cecilia glanced at Maxwell and Greta and taunted.
Greta was rooted on the floor. She finally couldn’t bear to hear Allison and Cecilia’s blatant and targeted taunts and suddenly stood to her feet, turned around, held Maxwell’s hand and walked out of the bedroom.
“It’s all your fault. If it’s not because you wanted to show off yourself, will we be the laughing stock of those people there?” They went to the corridor and Greta shot a fierce glare at Maxwell.
Maxwell smiled embarrassedly and then asked meaningfully, “Ms. Greta, are you coming back?”
“Of course. Should I stay here and wait for them to taunt at me?” Greta asked coldly.
Just as Maxwell and Greta walked out of the ultra-large luxurious villa, they saw a car galloping in their direction from afar and then slowly stopping by the roadside.
The car door was opened and a thin-haired old man got off the car. He was in a white suit specially used when practicing Kungfu and it looked like he came here right after finishing practicing boxing.
The old man noticed Maxwell as soon as he got off the car. He narrowed his eyes, took two consecutive steps forward towards Maxwell, and asked with uncertainty, “Lad, why do I feel so familiar with you…”
Maxwell paused and curled his lips into a light smile, “You forget me?”
The old man slapped his own head and laughed, “Oh, it’s you.”
“You two… met before?” Greta was slightly stunned.
“Of course. As I went to the wet market nearby every morning, I often saw him practicing Kungfu when I passed a park and would stop to have a chat with him.” Maxwell smiled, “Greta, you come back to the car first. I want to have a short talk with him. I’ll go find you soon.”
Greta glanced over Maxwell and the old man. She then nodded and walked elegantly towards the Maybach which was parked far away.
“Hey, why are you here?” Maxwell asked.
The old man produced a sheet of prescription from his pocket and replied, “One of my patients is suffering from an incurable disease. After having a diagnosis of him last time, I have been studied this at home. I found this prescription recently. So now I want to test its effect.”
Maxwell slightly curled his lips as he glanced over the prescription, “This prescription will not be helpful.”
The old man smiled, “You know nothing. This prescription is left by my father. Do you know who my father is?”
“Who?” Maxwell fixed his eyes on the old man with great interest.
