Whitney froze with her hand on the door before turning back to look at Damian. "What are you even talking about?"
Damian gave a cold laugh. "I didn't say his name, yet you're already defensive. Guess I'm not wrong, am I?"
Regret filled her immediately. She had reacted without thinking, and now, her heart was racing with unease.
"I mean that no matter who you're talking about, it's nonsense. Don't assume everyone's as hypocritical as you, Damian!"
"Hypocritical?" Damian leaned closer, his expression darkening. "You moved out because of him, didn't you? I've asked you over and over to come back, but you refuse. It's because of him, right? Last time you were sick, you didn't even try to stay away from him. You let him take care of you like it was nothing.
"Did you really think I didn't know? Whitney, can you swear that there's nothing between the two of you?"
Whitney stared at him, her heart trembling with every accusation he threw at her. That one night with Noel had been a mistake. Later, he saved her at the pool in the Howard residence. Then, she moved into Coaska Heights, only to discover they were neighbors.
Noel was also the one who calmed her down when they got trapped in the elevator. When she was sick, he stayed by her side.
She definitely had feelings for him, but she had been telling herself it was gratitude and nothing more. She didn't want to entertain the thought that there was more.
If she could end this engagement with Damian, she would gladly cut ties with the entire Howard family.
Whitney said coldly, "Damian, I don't want to hate you. But don't try to project your reasons for cheating on me. It'll make years of my feelings for you go to waste."
She opened the door, stepped out, and walked quickly toward the building.
…
Whitney had already put in her resignation, so she stopped receiving any work. All she had to do now was hand over her remaining projects and wrap up her work.
Sophie approached her as she came out of the break room.
"Mr. Elijah and Mr. Samuel are in Mr. Damian's office. Mr. Elijah asked for you."
Elijah rarely visited the company anymore since handing Howard Group over to Samuel to manage. He only showed up for major decisions or situations that required his presence.
Samuel, although technically the chairman, was often hands-off, relying on Damian to run things smoothly.
