When Love Is a Lie (Whitney and Damian) novel Chapter 66

Elijah looked at Whitney with a hopeful expression, and her smile faltered slightly.

"Whitney, Grandpa has spoken. Stop staying mad and stay by my side, alright?" Damian said, taking the opportunity to press her further and ignore their agreed-upon conditions.

Whitney didn't expect Damian to be so shameless about it. Although she was fuming inside, she maintained a smile and said, "I just want a change of environment. It's not because I'm mad. Grandpa, have you forgotten that I'm an architecture graduate? I just want to pursue a career in my field."

"You want to be an architect?" Elijah repeated thoughtfully, sighing as if recalling something from the past. "It's fate… You're so much like her."

Whitney blinked in confusion. "Like who?"

Elijah shook his head, letting the question pass. "If you want to work in architecture, Howard Group has an architecture department. Why look elsewhere?"

Whitney knew there was an open position in the architecture department, but Elijah had personally asked Damian to arrange for Rachel to fill that position. Had he forgotten about that?

Whitney began saying, "Yes. But you…"

"Grandpa, Whitney's been an exceptional secretary. She's organized, thorough, and has never once let me down. Having her around has made my work much easier. Once we're married, we'll be a perfect team, and Howard Group will only benefit from it."

In prominent families, harmony—especially between husband and wife—was highly valued. Constant discord could tarnish the family's reputation and jeopardize its business interests. Elijah, of course, cared about this deeply, and he nodded in agreement with Damian's words.

He turned to Whitney to reinforce the point. But before he could speak, Whitney sat up straighter, her gaze firm and sincere. "Becoming an architect has always been my dream. I'm asking you to please support me in following my passion."

She was filled with determination. In a split second, Elijah seemed to see someone familiar in her. That person had also been filled with the same determination.

"Very well. You can go ahead." Elijah smiled at her endearingly and nodded.

Whitney's face lit up. "Thanks, Grandpa!"

Damian's smile faded slightly, though he quickly masked it with his usual charm. "Looks like Grandpa has a soft spot for you," he said lightly. "Why don't you move back into the villa for his sake?"

His words shocked both Elijah and Samuel.
