On Sunday, Whitney and Damian went back to the Howard residence for dinner.
In the car, Damian said gently, "Tomorrow's Monday. Have you packed everything?"
Whitney knew that he was reminding her about moving back home. She had already completed the necessary handovers and resigned from Howard Group.
Next, it was time to fulfill her promise.
Whitney felt as though her heart was filled with lead as she said, "Don't worry. I'll keep my word."
She had promised Elijah that she would move back. Since she'd made the promise, she wouldn't go back on her word.
Damian glanced at her. He could tell that she was aggrieved and unwilling to give in.
"That's good," he said.
He reached out to caress Whitney's cheek, but she turned her head away.
Damian's eyes darkened. So, even touching her was off-limits now, was it?
Then, who did she want touching her? Noel?
Dissatisfaction began bubbling within him. He felt like someone had robbed him of his possession from right under his nose.
After a while, their Rolls-Royce drove past the gates of the Howard residence.
They had just gotten out of the car when another black car rolled to a stop behind theirs. After parking, the driver got out and opened the door to the backseat.
A middle-aged man in a blue jacket exited the car. He looked approachable and wise, and it was clear that time had been kind to him. However, his eyes glinted with a concealed sharpness.
Whitney thought that he looked familiar and very much like someone she knew.
Damian stepped forward and greeted, "Hello, Uncle Beckham."
Then, he turned to the woman beside Beckham and said, "Hello, Aunt Madelyn."
It turned out that the man was Noel's father, Beckham Howard. That explained why Whitney thought that he looked familiar.
Noel had inherited the best genes from Beckham.
"Damian, how has your work been recently? Is everything going well?" Beckham asked with a warm smile.
Damian responded politely, "Our projects have been progressing well."
Beckham hummed satisfactorily. "The national policies are excellent. Howard Group is the model corporation in Seabourke, so you must take the lead."
"Yes, I've got it. I won't let you down."
"I'm not the one you should be worried about letting down. It's the people."
Just then, Madelyn interrupted, "We're at home now. Don't be so strict with them."
