When Love Is a Lie (Whitney and Damian) novel Chapter 68

After Whitney finished typing, a realization hit her. Why was she so unsettled just because Noel wasn't home?

There was a strange sensation in her heart.

Yvette's words echoed in her mind, "Someone like him would never be interested in people like us."

Whitney shook her head, trying to dispel those thoughts. She had already decided to break off her engagement with Damian, determined to cut all ties with the Howard family. And that should include Noel too.

Whitney picked up her phone to delete the message she had typed. But in her rush, her phone slipped from her hand and hit the floor. When she picked it up, she froze. The message had been sent.

She frantically searched for the recall button.

"I just reached the building," Noel replied before she could recall the message.

Whitney was completely dumbfounded.

Whitney was just trying to find an excuse out of her impulsiveness. She didn't mean to send that message.

Her power was fine, and all the lights were on. What was she going to say when he showed up?

Whitney shot to her feet and started pacing. He was already on his way up. What could she do? Turn off the lights and pretend she wasn't home? That wouldn't make sense. She had just told him she had lost power.

She looked up at the bright lights in her living room, clasped her hands together, and silently wished for the power to go out.

Meanwhile, Noel had just finished parking his car when he saw her message.

There were no messages other than the time he sent her the architectural design information and she thanked him.

He remembered fixing her wiring last time, not just repairing the damage but also making sure there were no lingering issues. Technically, she shouldn't have any more problems anytime soon.

He had minored in electrical wiring during his degree, so his skills should be fine.

He was still feeling puzzled over it when the elevator reached the 16th floor. He walked over and knocked on Whitney's door.

A moment later, the door opened, and he saw nothing but darkness inside.

Whitney stood in the doorway and said awkwardly, "You're here," she said awkwardly.

She was too nervous, so she simply blabbered something.

"You're blocking the way. How am I supposed to check things out?" he replied coldly.

Realizing she was standing at the entrance, Whitney quickly stepped aside.

"Thanks. Sorry for the trouble." Whitney breathed a sigh of relief. Then, she grabbed a tissue from the table and offered it to him.

He took it, wiping his hands briefly.

"You're an architecture student, so you should know better than to run multiple high-powered appliances at once."

Whitney protested, "I wasn't. It was just normal usage."

"Just keep it in mind," he cut in, giving her no room to argue before turning to leave.

Whitney pouted in frustration. At least he didn't figure out anything, and she managed to get off.

Back at his apartment, Noel hung his coat and frowned with suspicion.

While he was checking the appliances, he noticed that the heater was still warm. The oven and stovetop had some residual heat, and even the water heater was hot. These signs that they had recently been turned off.

Whitney was an architecture student and a top one at that. Could she really be unaware of such basic knowledge?

He didn't buy it. But he wondered what she was trying to accomplish by messing with her power to trip the breaker.
