Perhaps the headmistress had been bought off by the Linwood couple.
Seeing her hesitation, Claire challenged, "Weren’t you going to call the police? Go ahead, make the call!"
Caught in a dilemma, the headmistress hesitated.
Claire, undeterred, pulled out her phone. "If you won’t call them, then I will. It’s been five years—time for the truth to come out."
Just as she was about to press the call button, a large hand snatched the phone from her grasp and smashed it to the ground, shattering it completely.
Claire looked up in shock, only to be slapped hard across the face, knocking her onto Irene's hospital bed.
Her cheek burned with pain, and her ears rang with a dull roar.
"You ungrateful girl! Making a scene here! Do you want to bring shame to the entire Linwood family?" Nathan bellowed, his eyes blazing with anger like a raging lion. He cursed her, raising his hand as if to strike her again.
Despite the throbbing pain in her face, Claire’s only concern was for Irene.
Irene, who had just awoken from a comatose state, was frail, and Claire’s fall had knocked her unconscious again.
"Irene! Irene!" Claire's voice trembled with desperation, tears streaming uncontrollably down her face. "Please wake up, just hold on a little longer."
If they couldn't prove Vanessa's guilt today, it would be nearly impossible to do so in the future.
Nathan, Adah, Ethan, Vanessa, and even Vincent and the headmistress all seemed relieved when Irene lost consciousness.
Brian hurried over, pushing Claire aside and anxiously called out, "Irene, what’s wrong? Don’t scare your brother like this."
But no matter how he called, Irene remained unresponsive.
His heart ached as he glared at Claire in fury, "This is all your fault! If you hadn’t caused such a commotion, Irene wouldn’t have fainted. If something happens to her, I will never forgive you."
With that, he lifted Irene in his arms and barked at the headmistress and the doctor, "What are you waiting for? Get my sister to emergency care!"
A flash of satisfaction passed through the headmistress’s eyes as she hurried, with the doctor, out of the room with Brian.
