She quickly clamped her mouth shut and refrained from asking any more questions.
The chauffeur smoothly brought the luxury car to a halt in front of the hotel.
Mrs. Foster and Vanessa exited the vehicle with elegance.
They expected to be met with admiring gazes, but reality dealt them a harsh blow. The people around simply cast a cursory glance in their direction before continuing with their own affairs, no one paying them any special attention.
The smile on Vanessa's face froze momentarily, but she quickly regained her composure, pretending as if nothing had happened.
Mrs. Foster, however, was not as adept at concealing her displeasure.
In Northcrest City, she was accustomed to being the center of attention wherever she went, basking in endless admiration thanks to her esteemed status and striking beauty.
But here, in Cresthaven, that special treatment seemed to have vanished into thin air.
She was unaware that Claire had previously made such a stunning entrance, causing quite a stir, and in comparison, she and Vanessa appeared too ordinary, hence the lack of interest.
Mrs. Foster worked to calm her emotions, reassuring herself that this was only temporary. Once they entered the banquet hall, she was certain that the locals would flock to her like eager puppies once they realized who she was.
Vanessa linked arms with Mrs. Foster as they made their way to the hotel entrance, though they halted abruptly at the door.
A tall man in a black suit was being blocked by security. The head of security looked apologetic as he said, "Mr. Cole, please understand, Foster & Co. has a strict policy: only those with an invitation can enter. Without one, I'm afraid I can't let you in."
Previously, the security chief had been warned for allowing members of The Linwood Group to enter without invitations. Letting the CEO of Cole Corporation in without one would end his career in Cresthaven.
Brian's expression darkened, and he spoke in a cold tone, "Tell me, what will it take to get me inside?"
The security chief gave a rueful smile, "Mr. Cole, please, don't put me in this position. I'm just following the rules."
Brian took a deep breath.
He had encountered people like this before. Despite the words, it was clear they were simply angling for a bribe.
Pulling out a check from his pocket, he scribbled a few lines before tossing it to the security chief, "A hundred thousand dollars, is that enough?"
