Francis was chatting with Gilbert, "I'm heading out now. Please take care of James for me."
"Don't worry," Gilbert said with a smirk, "I've got some experience handling kids these days."
"Relying on you, huh?"
Francis shook his head, not quite convinced. "Isn't Sherilyn the one actually in charge?"
He was being polite, of course.
James was heading to Blue Haven for a few days, and his nanny was tagging along. The main reason for leaving him with them was to ensure he didn't get lonely.
"Sherilyn, thanks for your help."
"No problem," Sherilyn replied with a smile. "My latest project just wrapped up, so I've got some free time."
"Alright then, I'm off."
Francis bent down and ruffled James's hair. "James, Daddy's leaving now. Remember to listen to your Aunt Sherilyn and Uncle Gilbert, okay?"
"Got it, Dad."
"Take care, bro. Safe travels."
"Will do."
Francis turned and got into the car, which slowly pulled away toward the gate.
Sherilyn watched the car intently, knowing Caroline was in that vehicle.
As the car drove further away, she felt her heart rate and breathing speed up... Caroline was gone!
She had really left!
With her departure, it seemed like the air around her had suddenly become fresher.
Warmth spread through her hand.
It was Gilbert, holding her hand.
Sherilyn was momentarily stunned, looking up at him in surprise.
"Let's head inside," Gilbert suggested with a smile, nodding toward the two little ones. "Time for these kids to wash up and hit the hay; they're still growing."
"Okay." Sherilyn nodded, slowly coming back to her senses.
...
The next morning.
