If Hannah had managed to stall for just another hour, Anathea would have made it to the airport and gotten away.

“I should’ve come to pick you up earlier,” Hannah said, clearly frustrated with herself

But oddly enough, Anathea actually felt a little relieved. If she’d really left, Adam might have died in prison without her ever knowing. That kind of regret would’ve haunted her for the rest of her life.

“Thea?” Hannah called gently when she didn’t hear a response.

“I’m here,” Anathea uttered softly.

“Are you… okay?” Hannah asked.

“I’m fine. Don’t worry,” Anathea reassured her. “I’m probably going to head back to Castenea for a while. Thanks for taking care of me these past few days.”

“Wait, is he forcing you to go back?” Hannah asked, her voice full of anger.

Anathea let out a breath and made up a random excuse. “No, there are some issues with the divorce paperwork. I need to go back with him to sort it out.”

She didn’t plan to tell Hannah about Adam because Hannah had already been worrying enough for her. Anathea didn’t want to add more to her plate.

“I see.” Hannah sounded surprised. She thought things between Anathea and Gregory were way messier than this. It was hard to imagine them sitting down calmly to deal with a divorce.

But at least Anathea wouldn’t have to hide or run anymore, which was a good thing.

Still, she couldn’t help but ask, a little hesitantly. “Uh, does Gregory know you’re pregnant?”

“Yeah. I’ll handle it. Don’t worry,” Anathea responded calmly and firmly.

Hannah nodded. “Okay. Go do what you need to do. Don’t worry about anything here. I’ll take care of Mrs. Jacobson. I’ll hire the best nurse for her.”

“Thank you, Hannah,” Anathea said sincerely.

“No big deal.” Hannah laughed a little.

Right after she hung up, a man asked from behind her, “Were you talking to your bestie again?”

“Yeah,” Hannah replied, her smile fading as she put her phone away.

Dominic walked over, his solid chest pressing against her back. Wrapping his arms around her waist, he rested his chin on her shoulder.

He’d just showered, and he smelled fresh.

“Why didn’t you go to the checkup I scheduled for you?” Dominic asked suddenly.

Hannah paused for a second, then answered easily, “I forgot–I had a last–minute shoot.”

“You’re very busy, huh?” Dominic teased, but there was a trace of annoyance in his voice. He then tilted her chin up. “Or maybe you forgot the little deal we made?”

He’d asked her to get a full medical checkup to prep her body for pregnancy. He wanted her to have his child. But it was ob she didn’t take this seriously at all.
