Claudia felt as if a century had passed. She was curled up in a corner of the big bed with a pale face.
Unlike before, after having sex with her, he didn't avoid her as quickly and disgustingly as he had avoided garbage.
He took a shower and came out of the dressing room. Then he stood casually on the edge of the bed, arranging his clothes. He lowered his eyes. He buttoned his shirt cuffs as he stared at Claudia with contempt.
Perhaps because of the light from the bedroom lamp, his expressionless handsome face looked very scary and eerie.
After a long time, he wanted to say something. He slightly opened his cold lips. He looked at Claudia with gloomy eyes.
Ben looked at her. However, he paused and somehow held his tongue in the end.
His fierce gaze swept over every inch of her body. Her snow-white skin was covered with light and heavy bruises. He gazed at her and abruptly curled his lips into a sneer.
His laugh was short and sounded a bit mocking.
At the same time, the imperceptible and complex look in his eyes was soon replaced by an indifferent look. In the end, he did not say a word, just straightened his clothes, turned around, and left the bedroom.
As the door closed, Claudia's long, slender eyelashes fluttered. She poked her little head out from under the quilt.
She barely managed to support her very sore body and struggled to sit up. Then she got out of bed and picked up the medical report from the floor.
This seemingly simple move took almost all of her remaining strength. She leaned weakly against the head of the bed. Her eyes darkened as she looked at the diagnosis in the results column on the sheet.
The next day, after the morning meeting, Nate knocked on the door, entered the CEO's office, and handed Ben a few documents.
Ben skimmed through them and quickly signed each one of them.
Nate took away the documents and just turned around when he heard his boss's mellow voice behind him.
“Wait!”
He stopped in his tracks and turned around, “Yes, sir?”
“Send someone to check out her daily necessities. And investigate the others around that person.”
The instant Ben's voice broke off, Nate was surprised and momentarily confused. Then he asked one more question, “That person?”
But as soon as the word was out of his mouth, Nate knew it!
He thought who else but his wife could be the person his boss mentioned?
“Yes, sir.” said Nate, nodding quickly and discreetly.
However, as he walked out the door, Nate wondered how Mrs. Crawford could have contracted such a strange disease when she had always been so prim and proper and had so little contact with others.
He thought it was unbelievable, but now it seemed to him that his boss had thought about the same thing.
Ben got up and paced to the French window. The dazzling sunshine outside the window enveloped him. His eyes were inscrutable and looked as deep as the ocean. And his eyes looked so complex that it was hard for others to guess.
At the Crawford mansion, Winifred's sudden arrival caught Claudia off guard.
From the moment she entered the door, Winifred's gloomy face made her look like a bloodthirsty demon from hell. And she didn't even look at Claudia, who came to greet her. She only coldly instructed her secretary, “Go get Conrad for me!”
He nodded and walked straight upstairs.
Claudia was slightly stunned. Winifred's stern rebuke came to her ears, “I can't believe that you're such a flirtatious slut even if you can't talk at all!”
“How can you get STD? Claudia, you're really something! Who gave it to you? It seems that you're not satisfied being Ben's wife!”
Every word she spoke was like a poisoned knife. Then she poked its sharp edge on Claudia's heart, leaving her wound dripping with blood.
“If there's something you're not happy about, you say so! No one is begging for you to stay with us. If you don't want to stay, get out now!”
