In the afternoon, the sun cast its glorious rays over the earth, and it was steaming.
Claudia just bathed Conrad and put on a fresh diaper for him. Feeling refreshed, he was crawling on the bed excitedly.
It took Claudia some efforts to hold Conrad and put on a Superman T-shirt and shorts for him. After that, she went downstairs with the baby.
Hanna happened to arrive at this moment. Conrad raised his little hands at the sight of her, wanting her to hold him.
Conrad was close to Hanna. Although he was very little, he recognized her.
“Wow, little Conny looks like a little Superman. You look so cute!” Hanna came over to hold Conrad and kissed him on the cheek affectionately.
Then she sat down and asked, “I have a get-together this afternoon. Do you want to go with me, Claudia?”
A get-together?
Claudia’s mind went blank. Apparently, she didn’t know what Hanna meant.
“It’s just a gathering of the women in our circle, including some young married women and socialites. We get together, chat and have some desserts. That’s all,” explained Hanna.
Now Claudia caught on. There had used to be many parties of this kind before, but Amber attended them on behalf of The Evans family each time.
“Let’s go together! No one is more qualified for this kind of occasion than you, Claudia!” Enthusiastic, Hanna held Claudia’s hands in a natural manner.
However, Claudia didn’t really want to go because she didn’t like that kind of occasions at all.
After all, she was a mute and unable to speak. She would only be laughed at there.
Aware of Claudia’s struggles, Hanna gave a faint smile and added, “Don’t worry. No one dares say anything bad about you with me around! Besides, you’re Mrs. Crawford, the envy of all those women!”
Envy...
Now Claudia felt even more embarrassed hearing that word.
But Hanna kept on inviting her so passionately that Claudia found it hard to refuse. Claudia saw Conrad playing with toy cars on the sofa and replied in sign language, “I have to take care of Conny. I’m so sorry I can’t go with you. You should go without me, Miss Lewis...”
Before she could finish her words in sign language, a voice interrupted her.
“Since Hanna invites you, just go!”
Startled, Claudia looked up and happened to see Winifred walking in from the hallway.
Winifred came to visit her grandson, and she happened to have heard what Hanna said.
Winifred changed her shoes and greeted Conrad once she came in, “My baby grandson! Come here. Let me have a good look at you...”
Winifred adored Conrad, and she spoiled him.
She took Conrad into her arms and said to Claudia, “At least you’re the younger Mrs. Crawford, so you have to attend such an occasion. I can take care of Conny, while you may go with Hanna!”
Hanna gave a smile and echoed, “Exactly! Don’t worry, Claudia. I’ll be by your side, and I won’t allow anyone to bully you!”
Claudia got even more embarrassed. However, since Winifred asked her to go, how could she refuse?
Claudia forced herself to go upstairs, get changed and leave with Hanna.
The meeting place was at the health spa of the villa resort in the suburbs.
The villa resort was the property of The Dunphy family. Since Sean was the heir of the Dunphy Group, as well as the friend of Ben’s, the manager of the spa went down to greet Claudia upon hearing that she arrived.
The manager also greeted Hanna, “You also came, Miss Lewis. My little spa is honored by your presence!”
In this kind of setting, the manager had to make flattering remarks to show respect for the Crawford Group.
However, those socialites, who had already arrived, were green with envy at the sight of this scene. They stared at the two of them with jealousy. One could tell at a glance that those ladies couldn’t feel bitterer.
The women gathered in knots in the box. Dressed in luxurious and glamorous clothes, they were sipping fine wine and having a chat.
