Chapter 104
The two guards exchanged hesitant glances, clearly uncertain.
“Apologies, Ms. Granger. Why don’t you give Mr. Lodge a call? If he comes to escort you personally, we’ll be happy to let you in,” one of the guards said.
“You…”
Evelyn couldn’t believe the two security guards had the nerve to give her attitude. Left with no choice, she pulled out her phone and dialed Brian’s number.
The phone rang and rang, but no one picked up. Frustrated she tried calling Emily next, only to be met with the same result.
At that moment, a few ladies walked out from the hall chatting loudly. “Wow, Ariana really knows how to put on a show. Did you see how entranced Mr. Lodge looked while watching her dance?”
“I thought Mr. Lodge was completely devoted to Evelyn. Since when did he get so close to Ariana?
“Who knows? Ariana must have some serious tricks up her sleeve. No man can resist a woman throwing herself at him like that.”
Their gossip hit Evelyn like a slap, igniting a fresh wave of anger.
Ariana again! How shameless could she get?
Fuming, Evelyn made a move to storm inside, but the security guards quickly stopped her. “Ms. Granger, please “don’t make this difficult for us!”
“Get out of my way! Let me in!” Evelyn shouted. The thought of Brian and Ariana together inside was driving her mad. The guards were not able to stop her as she forced her way into the venue.
The moment Evelyn burst through the doors of the ballroom, all eyes turned to her. She stood in the doorway, her disheveled appearance drawing immediate attention. Her hair was messy, and she looked anything but composed.
Upon seeing her, Brian’s brows furrowed in irritation. “Eve?”
The crowd exchanged curious and judgemental glances. The contrast between Evelyn’s current state and Ariana’s earlier poised and magnetic presence was glaring
Mindful of the onlookers, Brian strode over to Evelyn, grabbing her arm. “Why are you here?” His tone was tinged with displeasure.
Evelyn bit her lip. “I just… I was worried you didn’t have a date.” Her voice trembled slightly as her eyes darted to the dance floor, where Ariana had just finished her performance. “But it seems I was wrong,” she added with a touch of bitterness.
Seeing Evelyn turn to leave, Brian felt a twinge of guilt. His voice softened as he said, “Since you’re here, you might as well stay.”
Evelyn raised her teary eyes to meet his. “What about Ms. Torrey?”
Brian let out a cold laugh. “She doesn’t need me to enjoy herself.”
