Chapter 105
As Brian and Evelyn turned to leave together, the onlookers who had been watching couldn’t suppress their laughter.
“This is just too funny. Ariana danced her heart out for nothing. Ms. Granger showed up, and she’s already out of the game.”
“I told you. To Mr. Lodge, Ms. Granger and Ariana are worlds apart. Ms. Granger is like a cloud in the sky, while Ariana is nothing but dirt on the ground. She deserves to be treated like this!”
“Ariana, do yourself a favor and stop embarrassing yoursel
Their mocking voices were loud and unrestrained, dripping with disdain for Ariana.
Ariana, however, remained unfazed. After all, her performance hadn’t been meant for Brian in the first place. Whatever he thought of her didn’t concern her in the slightest.
Instead, she focused on her real target. She noticed a figure descending the stairs from the second floor, Ariana strolled over to the group of mocking women and asked, “Were you just talking about me?”
“Of course we were. Who else would we be talking about?” one of them sneered. “Don’t think we don’t know your
little game. You’ve been clinging to Mr. Lodge using nothing but your looks. But men get bored quickly. Look at him now. He doesn’t even care about you anymore.”
The venom in their words didn’t faze Ariana. Her attention shifted to Victor nearing the bottom of the staircase.
Learning in close to the sneering socialites, she whispered just loud enough for them to hear, “Is that so? Funny, coming from someone who couldn’t even sell herself if she cried. With your stubby legs and awkward proportions, even if you stripped down and danced in front of Brian, he wouldn’t even spare y
you a glance.”
“You!” The insult hit its mark. The socialite’s eyes widened in fury, and she raised her hand to slap Ariana. But just as the hand was about to strike, Ariana staggered back deliberately, letting herself fall.
Instead of hitting the ground, she landed in a pair of strong, warm arms that caught her tightly.
Ariana looked up in surprise and found herself face–to–face with Victor. His features were flawless, yet his expression was cold and emotionless. His icy aura radiated an untouchable authority, chilling everyone in the
room.
“Mr. Mr. Smith!”
The socialite froze, her face as pale as a sheet. She instinctively stepped back, realizing that her slap had almost landed on Victor instead of Ariana.
Victor said coldly, “Hunter.”
“Yes, Mr. Smith.” Hunter stepped forward. He had a towering figure with an imposing presence. Without hesitation, he swung his hand across the socialite’s face.
Her scream echoed through the ballroom and shocked everyone. The socialite collapsed to the floor, half of her face swollen. Yet, she didn’t dare to utter a single word. She simply cowered on the ground, trembling.
Everyone in the room knew who Victor was. His power stretched beyond both legitimate and illegitimate business circles alike. People knew better not to cross him.
