Chapter 125
“Yeah. Is Ariana really with Victor now? Tell us what’s really going on.”
Two female classmates clung to Fiona, dying to hear the real inside scoop.
Fiona felt awkward. She might be related to Gwen, but she had practically no real ties to the Torrey family. Besides, Ariana certainly had no intention of treating her like a cousin.
Seeing her clam up, one classmate said, “Fiona, did you make it all up before?”
“Exactly! If you really are Ariana’s cousin, how could you not know anything about her? Didn’t you say you got into Glea College because Mr. Lodge helped you?”
They doubted Fiona’s stories.
Fiona stammered, “I… I swear it’s all true!”
“Sure it is,” the other classmate snorted. “So, if you do know Ariana, what is she doing with Mr. Smith? Is she cheating on Mr. Lodge?”
Fiona suddenly thought of Brian. She remembered him once saying in his office that if Ariana wasn’t around, someone else could take her place.
If Ariana got caught up in a scandal, could this be her chance? Would Brian choose her instead?
With that thought, Fiona forced a smile and said, “Everyone knows how messy these circles can be. Some things are better left unspoken, right?”
Her vague response caused a flurry of excitement in the group.
“So, you mean Ariana really is involved with Mr. Smith?
Fiona was emboldened and said, “What else could it be? Do you think Mr. Smith would show up at campus so early if he had nothing going on with her? Didn’t you see him holding her hand?”
By now, most of them believed her.
In this circle, it wasn’t unusual for people to have secret flings. They figured Ariana really was being indiscreet, flirting with multiple men.
“Fiona, if you truly are Ariana’s cousin, you must see Mr. Lodge a lot, right?”
“Yeah. I heard Mr. Lodge isn’t so close to Ms. Granger anymore. Does he like someone else now?”
They crowded around, hoping Fiona would share some inside info on Brian.
Fiona felt put on the spot. She had only met him twice. After that, she never got another chance to see him. She had tried thanking him more than once and been turned away.
Still, she wanted to keep up the charade that she was part of high society, so she said, “Yes, of course. My cousin is living at the Lodge residence. Everyone knows Mr. Lodge likes Ms. Granger. He likes women who are elegant and classy.”
Just then, some students nearby started buzzing “Look, it’s Mr. Lodge!”
Why is M
Lodge here again? Is he here to find Ariana?”
