Chapter 162
Ariana quickly arrived at the entrance of Lodge Co.
As she stepped out, the employees outside the building Instinctively moved aside, trying to avoid her. Their peculiar gazes made her feel as though she was some sort of fearsome beast.
Ariana ignored their stares and walked toward the entrance with her head held high. Within moments, Emily walked out of her office and quickly approached her.
“Ms. Torrey,” she said politely, “Mr. Lodge is currently in a meeting. Perhaps you could wait here for a moment?”
“Wait here?”
Ariana glanced around.
All eyes were now fixed on her, and the atmosphere was thick with anticipation. They were clearly curious to see: what drama was going to unfold.
office, and
Everyone here knew her reputation. Over the years, Ariana Had caused quite a few spectacles at the gossip about her “chasing after” Brian was widespread. Seeing her here now, it was clear that there was some drama about to unfold.
“You mean to tell me that the Lodge Co. doesn’t even have a waiting room?”
Emily laughed nervously as she heard Ariana’s question. “Well… The waiting rooms aren’t available at the moment. Mr. Lodge instructed that you wait here.”
“And how long will his meeting last?”
“That depends. If it’s quick, maybe half an hour. If not… It could take a while.”
Emily gave her an uncertain reply.
Ariana immediately understood what was going on. Brian was deliberately keeping her waiting. It was a petty way to excerpt control and put her in her place.
In the past, she might have endured this kind of humiliation willingly. But things were different now–she no longer cared about Brian or his games.
Ariana smirked. “If Mr. Lodge doesn’t want to release my brother, that’s fine. I’m not particularly interested in taking him back anyway. Ms. Lambert can come to pick him up herself. It’s not my problem anymore.”
Ariana turned to leave, and Emily started panicking. She stepped forward and said, “Ms. Torrey, Mr. Igor is your brother, after all…”
“I don’t have a brother who wants me dead.”
Ariana continued with a faint smile, “If Mr. Lodge is so busy, I won’t disturb him any further. As for my brother, you can deal with him however you see fit–call the police, send him back to the Torreys. It’s none of my concern.”
“Ms. Torrey!”
Emily quickly stepped in front of her again. “Mr. Lodge didn’t mean it like that. He actually cares about you a lot.”
“Cares about me? That’s news to me,” Ariana scoffed, recalling how Brian had abandoned her on the side of the road last night without a second thought. He hadn’t cared whether she’d make it home or it might be dangerous out there. It was clear to her that he never took her seriously.
Ariana had come to terms with this harsh truth a long time ago. After all, she’d already lived through this once.
