Ariana wasn’t so narcissistic to think that Brian’s actions were an act of love. 

She glanced at the time on her watch and said casually, “By the way, tonight is my brother’s birthday banquet. A lot of prominent figures will be attending. If Mr. Lodge refuses to release him, I suppose we’ll just have to tell everyone that his future brother–in–law was invited to the Lodges for a drink and hasn’t been allowed to leave. What do you think of that excuse, Emily? 

Emily’s expression darkened instantly. Brian’s status and Igor’s were worlds apart. The idea of Brian “inviting” Igor for tea was laughable and humiliating. If such a rumor spread, it would undoubtedly tarnish the Lodge family’s reputation. 

Yet, considering Gwen’s shamelessness, Emily couldn’t completely rule out the possibility. That mother–son duo was capable of anything. 

“Ms. Torrey, please… Follow me this way,” Emily said while gesturing for Ariana to follow her upstairs. 

The surrounding employees watched in shock as Ariana was escorted upstairs by Emily. After all, everyone knew that Brian had never invited Ariana inside so easily before. 

“I thought Mr. Lodge is not very fond of his fiancée? Why does it seem like Ms. Weston is actually afraid of her?” 

“She’s just throwing her weight around as the heiress of the Torrey family. She’s forgotten how she used to bow and scrape just to get Mr. Lodge’s attention!” 

“Exactly. Remember how she used to wait here for hours whenever she came to see him?” 

The gossip continued just loud enough for Emily to hear. She glanced at Ariana, expecting to see some trace of anger or embarrassment, but to her surprise, Ariana was unexpectedly calm. She continued walking ahead as if she never heard their words. 

After spending more time with Ariana, Emily couldn’t help but notice the stark change in her demeanor. 

In the past, she would have blushed with humiliation and stormed out of the room if she heard such comments. But lately, she seemed utterly unaffected, like none of it mattered to her. 

“We’re here, Ms. Torrey,” Emily said, leading her into a spacious lounge. After ensuring the room was private and secure, Emily excused herself and went directly to Brian’s office. 

“Is she here?” Brian asked, without even looking up from his paperwork. 

“Yes, Ms. Torrey has arrived,” Emily replied. 

“Where is she now?” 

“She’s in the lounge next door.” 

Upon hearing this, Brian paused and looked up, his icy gaze fixed on Emily, “When did I tell you to prepare a lounge for her? Did you not understand my instructions?” 

“Mr. Lodge, Ms. Torrey said that if you were too busy, she’d leave. She also mentioned that the Torrey family has a banquet at the Royal Hotel tonight. If you don’t release her brother, they’ll tell everyone that you invited your future brother–in–law for a drink…” 

Emily’s voice trailed off, clearly uneasy about repeating such an absurd notion.
