When Ariana said William had taken that plot of land, Brian abruptly stood up. “What did you just say?”
“Mr. Lodge, I’m just a woman. What do I know about investing? Besides, I didn’t buy it. Mr. Kingsman did. You already know I had no real power in the Torrey family back then. Where would I have gotten five billion? If you really want that land, you should talk to Mr. Kingsman. Maybe he’ll be willing to sell it to you.
Ariana put on an innocent look, but Brian heard no trace of goodwill in her words.
“Ariana, are you kidding me? You were the one who wanted that land. Now you’re just handing it over?”
“Mr. Lodge, that’s not entirely accurate. Mr. Kingsman was the one who paid for it at the time. Now he’s taking it back. What can I say? I have to let him have it.”
She let out a sigh and continued, “To tell you the truth, I do regret it. Had I known this land would turn out so valuable, I would’ve bought it myself. Now look, I’m left with nothing.‘
“You…”
Brian didn’t know what to say to Ariana.
This huge windfall was essentially brushed aside and handed over to William.
Everyone knew the Kingsman family and the Lodge family were longtime enemies. If William got his hands on that land, Lodge Co.’s hot spring project for the second half of the year was sure to fail.
Ariana watched him storm off. She even pretended to call after him, raising her voice toward the outside door.” Mr. Lodge, you’re leaving already? Not going to stay a bit longer?”
The only response was the loud slam of the door.
Seeing that Brian was gone, Ariana dropped the act. She leaned back against the bed and closed her eyes to rest.
Luckily, Brian didn’t know she had used all the money her father gave for her dowry to buy that suburban land in South Gleaston. If he had known, he would have pressured the Torrey family to take it from her.
“William, I’m sorry for dragging you into this again to cover for me,” she thought.
Meanwhile, William sneezed in the middle of his lecture at Glea College.
The students at their desks all stared at him. He adjusted his glasses and said calmly, “Let’s continue.”
Soon, the bell rang. William checked his watch, then gathered up his lecture notes. “Class is dismissed.”
With that, he left the classroom and went out into the corridor.
Two lines of secretaries and assistants from Kingsman Co. were waiting. As he walked, they quickly fell into step
behind him.
“Mr. Kingsman, there are a few business collaborations that need your attention.”
“I have something else to handle first. We’ll talk later.”
“Yes, Mr. Kingsman.”
William went to the meeting room, where several teachers were waiting for him.
