“I’ll believe you if you insist you have nothing to do with South Gleaston right before we crash,” Victor smirked.
“You!” Ariana’s face fell. How was this any different from coercion?
The car lights illuminated the broken bridge ahead. With nowhere to escape, Ariana simply shut her eyes and left it to fate. “Do whatever you want. But I have nothing to do with the South Gleaston plot!”
Victor caught Ariana’s resigned expression from the corner of his eye and slammed on the brakes right before the car flew over the edge.
The car stopped inches from the edge.
The impact Ariana had braced for never came. When she opened her eyes, the broken bridge loomed just ahead.
“You there! I’m talking to you!” Not far away, flashing police lights pierced the darkness.
Two officers stepped out of their patrol car. One of them strode toward them with a flashlight in hand.
The beam reflected off the car’s windows, blinding Ariana.
“You two! Step out of the vehicle!” The officer’s tone was harsh and impatient.
Ariana glanced at Victor, but he showed no intention of complying. Instead, he calmly shifted gears and began reversing toward the officers.
“Get out! I said, get out of the car!” The officers hadn’t expected such blatant defiance.
“Do you realize this is illegal? Get out immediately!” Their expressions darkened.
Ariana intended to persuade Victor to comply. But before she could, he turned the wheel and sped off, ignoring the police.
“Victor! This is a crime!” She couldn’t help but warn him.
“Do I look like someone afraid of breaking the law?” Victor steered effortlessly with one hand, utterly
unconcerned about the police chasing them.
Sure enough, the wailing of sirens erupted behind them. Then came the blaring loudspeaker. “Stop immediately! You are violating the law! Stop immediately or face the consequences!”
“Victor!” Ariana refused to believe he could be reckless in Gleaston.
She knew he had influences overseas. But that didn’t mean he could do as he pleased here.
Yet Victor had no intentions of listening.
Within minutes, they were surrounded by police vehicles from all directions.
Driving through a restricted road was already reckless, but ignoring the police and attempting to flee made it far
worse.
