"The testers found a lot of bacteria and viruses in the pasta donated by the Regallo Charity Foundation. Most came from rats. They said it looked as if the pasta had been scooped straight out of a rat hole."
Melody stood frozen for a long moment. She couldn't believe it. "How could that be?"
Regallo was one of the biggest charities in Jembina. Its public reputation had always been spotless.
Even when Lydia said Regallo hadn't sent money to Green Moon Orphanage for two quarters, they just thought something had delayed the payment. They had never imagined Regallo would do anything wrong, let alone something this vile.
Felicia, reluctant yet determined, handed Melody the inspection report she had just photographed. "Our newsroom has worked with this lab for years. We can trust them completely."
Melody took the report. Her whole body shook.
How could they dare to do something like this?
Andrew's smiling face flashed across her mind, and nausea swept over her. She wanted to throw up.
The Wardolfs had split Regallo into two parts. The Regallo Group, run by Denvin, handled business. The Regallo Charity Foundation, managed by Andrew, oversaw donations.
Felicia said, "Jason and I had planned to visit the orphanage first before coming to you. We wanted to talk about how to handle this."
Many companies had joined the donation project, and quite a few were large firms. When Regallo launched the foundation, plenty of businesses signed on to polish their public image.
If they exposed the scandal outright, the public might not believe them, and the story would likely be buried. They also needed to explain everything to Lydia and the children at the orphanage.
Felicia muttered, "Those shameless people don't value lives at all."
Feeling miserable, Melody remained silent.
Felicia glanced at her, pity in her eyes. She told Jason to watch over Melody and stepped outside to make some calls.
Jason and Melody had both grown up at Green Moon Orphanage. He felt just as upset, yet he gently patted Melody's head. "Don't be afraid. They... They will pay for what they did."
Melody lifted her face and murmured, "I never thought they could do something like this."
Growing up in the orphanage had taught her how starved for love the children were and how sensitive and insecure. That was why she always tried her best to help them.
She dreaded to think how hurt the children would be if they learned that the people they thanked so sincerely treated them as props.
If the tainted food harmed them, how could they afford treatment? On top of being still so young, they had no money and no family.
Melody pressed her lips tightly to control her emotions.
"Blood! You're bleeding!" Jason suddenly cried.
