Melody wasn't surprised that Andrew had gone to the Green Moon Orphanage, yet she still worried because she had no idea what he intended to do.
She turned to Jeremy. "Could you drive me to the orphanage?"
Jeremy pulled over at the curb. He glanced at her and spoke in a flat tone. "Why would I go to a dump like that?"
Melody was stunned. She had no time to guess what he meant, as all she could think about was the orphanage. She muttered, "Then, I'll call a cab."
She reached for the door, but it was locked.
Puzzled, she looked over at him.
Jeremy sat with a deep frown, an icy air rolling off him. He didn't know why he had hit the lock, only that he reacted the moment she tried to leave.
Besides, Harold had been right. Jeremy had lost control of his moods more and more lately.
Melody spoke hesitantly. "Jeremy, are you..."
"Are you alright?" was what she wanted to ask.
Before she could finish, he cut her off. His jaw tightened, and his voice turned cold. "Since you think I'm mean, you should know I won't step into that mess. When you leave, do yourself a favor and shower at a hotel before you go home, or the house will need another round of disinfection."
He stared straight ahead and never looked at her. Then, he added, "You can go now."
Melody's breathing turned ragged. She only then noticed her hands were shaking.
