Krystal's tone stayed even, but her striking eyes scrutinized Melody.
In her view, Melody simply wasn't in Jeremy's league. Whether in ability or appearance, she fell short.
She wondered how the Chessons had ever agreed to their engagement.
Melody lowered her lashes. "I wasn't prying. I only asked a question."
Krystal didn't soften. "Clearly, we have no wish to answer."
Melody went rigid. Even she could tell Krystal was hostile, and she had no idea how to handle it.
Noticing the tension, Tiffany let out a sharp laugh. "Dr. Finnigan, people might misunderstand and think you're Dr. Chesson's fiancée. What's wrong with Melody asking about her fiancé?"
The words were barbed, but she didn't care. Krystal's lofty pose had always rubbed her the wrong way.
Krystal's expression stayed calm. "So you're saying an engagement bans someone from having friends or private time?"
Tiffany smirked. "Sounds like you enjoy spending private time with other women's men."
Krystal's expression turned cold. "Ms. Ziegler, watch your mouth!"
"I'm only following your logic," Tiffany retorted.
Melody tugged Tiffany's sleeve and shook her head. "Let it go."
