A Whisper that went unheard novel Chapter 159

Jeremy was indeed a poor drinker, but he held fast onto Melody, even if he was sleeping deeply. His warm breath caressed Melody's cheeks as she watched him sleep, and his eyebrows twitched ever so slightly.

Jeremy truly had a stunning appearance.

Melody recalled the first time she saw him—he was a young man, standing in the harsh sunlight and blocking her from the heat. He'd looked so youthful, dashing, and sophisticated.

Back when Melody was a young girl, she was very skinny and petite because she was always starved. In turn, this made her an easy target for bullies.

She'd met Jeremy for the first time in an alley outside her orphanage. Back then, a group of bullies had been trying to forcefully take her stuff away.

Her hair was a tangled mess because they'd pulled at it, and her bag strap was yanked and snapped off. There were even scratches on her cheeks.

However, Melody didn't have any energy to fight back. She was already skinny and weak to begin with.

Nevertheless, she was still so intent on protecting her bag that she curled up onto the ground.

Incidents like this happened nearly once every week. The bullies lived nearby and would always pick a hapless kid from the orphanage to drag to the alley to pick on every Friday.

Unfortunately, Melody was such an easy target that she became their favorite target.

But that was up until Jeremy appeared. For some reason, the bullies were terrified of him.

After that, he became Melody's guardian whenever she used the alley. He'd appear at the other end of the alley at the same time of the day and walk her through it.

That said, they had barely talked to each other. After all, silence was Jeremy's middle name.

Melody felt groggy as these thoughts swarmed her mind. Before long, she dozed off as well.

By the time Jeremy opened his eyes, it was already pitch black outside.
