Jeremy happened to be walking by when he overheard this. He stopped in his tracks and said, "What?"
Melody felt a little awkward. Her face flushed just thinking about what the kid had said. She covered the receiver and whispered, "The orphanage is having a Children's Day event in June, and the kids want to know whether you'll go."
Jeremy looked at her. "Are you going?"
Melody nodded. "Everyone looks forward to Children's Day every year."
There weren't many holidays that the children at the orphanage got to celebrate, but the orphanage would always do something for Children's Day. That usually meant new clothes and tons of delicious food, so naturally, everyone loved it.
Jeremy lowered his eyes slightly and flatly answered, "Then I'll go too."
Melody hadn't really expected Jeremy to agree to go, so when she heard his answer, she was rather surprised. "Do you have the time?"
"I'll be off that day," Jeremy simply answered. He then fell silent for a second before asking, "Why do they call you by your name but call me 'Mr. Doctor'?" He had wanted to ask this question last time at the hospital too.
Melody was Melody, but he was "Mr. Doctor." The difference was obvious.
Melody blinked at Jeremy. She didn't really know how to answer the question. To be honest, she was surprised that Jeremy even cared about it.
Her lips simply curled up into a small smile before she turned to go about her own business.
…
One day during lunch break, Tiffany quietly shared some gossip with Melody. She said that the person staying in the single room at the end of the hallway was someone from the upper echelons of Jembina.
"No wonder Dr. Turner himself is the attending doctor. The hospital higher-ups keep stopping by too."
Melody remembered that Jeremy had been especially busy a while ago, and it had been because of this patient as well. She frowned as she whispered, "He's going into surgery soon, right?"
