A Whisper that went unheard novel Chapter 175

Melody couldn't help but feel deflated even though she'd expected that answer.

Nevertheless, she earnestly explained, "Dr. Jangger said that with my current condition, I only need to switch to a pair of the latest hearing aids, then there won't be any problems."

Benson sighed. "Ms. Wardolf, I know what you're trying to say. You want to assist in Jeremy's surgery, right?"

Melody looked down and answered, "We work well together."

"But you're also aware of the uncertainty surrounding your condition. As the chief, I need to be accountable for all the patients and minimize the risk of surgeries."

Benson was right, and Melody wasn't exactly unhappy with his answer. She had expected such an outcome anyway. It was just that she had recalled how Jeremy had said that he needed her, so she wanted to give it a try.

Melody softly apologized to Benson. Then, she turned to leave the office.

Just as she was about to step out, Benson suddenly called out to her, "Ms. Wardolf, can I ask why you chose to study nursing in the first place?"

Melody froze, looking a little lost.

She had chosen to study nursing because Jeremy was going to be a doctor, so she had followed after him. She had always thought that she wasn't particularly smart, so she had followed in his footsteps as much as possible.

Benson chuckled. "I think you should think long and hard about the real reason you chose this field in the first place."

When Melody left Benson's office, her mood had grown inexplicably heavy.

Why had she pursued medicine?

Just as Melody was pondering the question in her mind, she saw Jeremy and Caleb approaching.

Caleb was still feeling a little awkward about the voting incident, so he quickly made up an excuse and took off.

Jeremy looked at her and said, "You went to see Dr. Turner?"

"Yes," Melody truthfully answered. "I wanted to ask if I could join the surgery. You mentioned that you wanted me to join you, right?"
