Melody forced a smile and said in a hoarse voice, "Thank you, Tiffany."
Tiffany was taken aback and looked at her in confusion. "What happened to you? Why is your voice so hoarse?"
After all, Melody's usual voice was soft, gentle, and pleasant to hear.
Tiffany looked at her in concern. "Are you coming down with a cold or fever?"
"No," Melody whispered. "I just… figured some things out."
Tiffany wanted to ask more questions, but Melody had already started organizing her equipment, clearly not wanting to say more. So, she decided not to press the issue.
However, as soon as she turned around, she heard Melody say, "Tiffany, I think I want to break up with Jeremy."
…
It wasn't until the next morning, during the shift change, that Melody saw Jeremy again. He was with Krystal, talking to the department head, so he didn't notice her.
Melody simply left with Tiffany with her head down.
Just as they were about to go downstairs, they ran into Ophelia.
Melody paused. "Ophelia, what are you doing here?"
Ophelia sized her up and then said, "I called you several times, but you didn't pick up. I was worried that something had happened to you, so I came to the hospital to find you."
After a long silence, she finally confessed to Ophelia, saying, "Ophelia, I broke up with Jeremy, so you…" But the latter part of the sentence was stuck in her throat and couldn't come out.
Ophelia had always been kind to her, so Melody didn't know how to face her now. In the end, she lowered her head and apologized, "I'm sorry, Ophelia."
She waited for a long time, but there was no response from Ophelia.
Her hands tightened nervously. Before she could speak again, Ophelia's cold voice finally cut through the silence.
"Since you broke up with Jeremy, don't contact me anymore."
Then, at the next second, Ophelia laughed. "Is that what you wanted to hear from me?"
