"Who told you that you can test my limits like this over and over with such unreasonable tantrums?" Jeremy was clearly irritated. "I already made things clear when we were abroad. I don't understand what you're doing this time.
"If it's because of what happened last night…" He paused, recalling how Melody had insisted on asking him whether he went to the hospital because of Krystal or because of her.
To him, that question was incredibly foolish. The result was the same, but she had to make it about ranking priorities, trying to show that she was more important.
What was the point of that?
To be honest, he didn't have the time to keep playing these childish games with her.
Melody turned to look at him and asked, "So, what do you have to say if it's about last night?"
Between her and Krystal, Jeremy's choice was always Krystal.
For some reason, she wanted to indulge in a little masochism. She wanted to see once again how he would immediately choose Krystal without hesitation
But when their eyes met, the coldness in Jeremy's eyes softened for a brief moment. Then, he said in a low voice, "It was because that case file was very important…"
Then, he abruptly stopped. His gaze locked onto Melody, and his expression slowly returned to its usual indifference.
When he spoke again, he didn't continue his previous sentence.
He raised his chin slightly, and his eyes were colder than ever. He realized just in time that he had almost let her manipulate him into giving her what she wanted.
His job was what it was, and he didn't need to explain himself to her.
As he suppressed his frustration, he said, "I don't need to explain my work to you, but since you want to break up, fine."
Melody looked at him, her fingers curling slightly in her palm. She sniffed and said in a hoarse voice, "Okay."
Jeremy added, "This is the third time. I won't give you a chance to regret it."
Melody closed her eyes and felt a sharp pain in her chest as she said, "Okay."
In the reflection of Jeremy's dark eyes, Melody's figure was clear.
Jeremy's jawline and lips were tightly set, and a cold air seemed to surround him. Even though he was holding it back, he could still feel his heart pounding harder than before.
His emotions were in turmoil. His fingers unconsciously curled in, and the veins on his hand visibly protruded.
His voice was cold and low. "You can leave now."
Melody paused, picked Echo up, and left.
As the door closed behind her, her grip on Echo tightened.
It seemed like this was how it would end between her and Jeremy.
