Denvin lowered his gaze and casually glanced at Melody.
His features were deep and handsome, and he had an air of rebelliousness that seemed to linger around him.
When he asked Melody that question, it almost felt like he was watching a joke unfold.
Melody paused, not answering the question. Instead, she said, "Let's go eat first. Didn't you say there's something about Celestial Group to discuss?"
Denvin raised an eyebrow. "Looks like Jeremy really kicked you out. This was bound to happen. It's not a surprise. He never liked you."
Melody let out a long sigh, the suffocating emotions inside her stuck in an uncomfortable limbo.
She knew that no one in the Wardolf family, except for Cheryl, ever thought she and Jeremy would end up together. However, having it get pointed out so directly by Denvin still made her feel a sense of discomfort.
Unable to hold it in, she raised her voice and cut Denvin off, "I know he doesn't like me." She had always known that Jeremy might have some attachment to her, maybe because of her company or because of her body, but it was only an attachment. He had never truly cared for her.
They were together because of an accident and his sense of responsibility. He had said he would take care of her, but he had never said that he would like her or love her.
After all, love and responsibility were not the same thing.
Melody's expression darkened.
Denvin gave her a sidelong glance before clicking his tongue. "Just a reminder, you should face reality. There's no need to live in a fantasy. Is it really necessary to cry over this?"
As soon as Denvin said that, Melody instinctively reached up to touch her eyes.
But there were no tears. She had been tricked by him.
She furrowed her delicate brows. Just as she was about to speak, Denvin had already opened the car door. "Get in."
The restaurant was one that Denvin had chosen. It was a well-known private dining place in the city center. The owner was a friend of Denvin's.
When the owner saw Denvin bringing Melody in, he teasingly said, "It's my honor to serve you today, Mr. Wardolf. It's been a while! I didn't think the old lone wolf would ever bring a date!"
The owner raised his eyebrows and winked at Melody.
