Jeremy's words were completely devoid of emotion.
Melody raised her eyes to look at him. She couldn't help but think of Andrew's words—that she might not even be able to keep her job at the hospital. Then, there were the cold stares she'd received in the department over the past few days.
She'd tried to ignore it as best as she could, though she certainly couldn't pretend that she didn't feel the mockery. Even though she knew that Jeremy's words weren't likely influenced by Andrew, she still couldn't help but link the two together.
It was as if they both stood on some high ground, casually watching her struggle from above. No one seemed to care whether or not she was suffering.
Melody didn't say anything, but her long, delicate lashes fluttered slightly, betraying the turmoil inside her.
Jeremy coldly looked at her, his dark eyes unusually deep with emotion.
How laughable.
She had said it so casually then.
His apartment—she lived there for a year and had just moved out yesterday. Now, she was already so quick to distance herself.
Jeremy also thought of how she had hurried to sever ties with him in front of Denvin.
At that thought, the expression on his face turned even more unpleasant.
He and Denvin had never been particularly close. Melody knew that, but still, she acted all familiar with Denvin in front of him.
She was indeed ungrateful.
Jeremy's face grew darker. She still hadn't said anything that would satisfy him.
With that, he simply turned away and walked off.
Melody pressed her lips tightly together. She slowly lifted her gaze and watched Jeremy's back as he walked further away.
Finally, she exhaled the breath she had been holding in.
