Andrew's voice sounded gentle, but every word implied Melody was at fault.
Even Felicia felt uncomfortable hearing it.
She glanced at Melody beside her. Melody had turned her head to the side, staring blankly at the sign on the wall.
Felicia sighed inwardly and suddenly felt relieved that Melody couldn't hear any of it.
Jeremy listened to Andrew and frowned slightly. After a moment, he said in a low voice, "I'll consider it."
Felicia's expression changed immediately. After he hung up, she said sharply, "Dr. Chesson, what's that supposed to mean? Consider what? Are you thinking about calling off your engagement to Mel?"
Jeremy looked at her impassively. "This has nothing to do with you."
Felicia gave a furious laugh. "You've known Mel for so many years. Don't you understand her personality by now? You really believe she would leak Tessa's information on purpose?"
"No matter what anyone believes, the truth will come out when the investigation is over."
Felicia had been Melody's best friend for ages. Even though Melody had never admitted it, she could guess that Melody loved Jeremy.
She couldn't help asking, "Then do you believe her?"
Seeming to sense they were talking about something, Melody turned around and looked at Jeremy and Felicia with a puzzled expression.
She couldn't hear anything now, and her eyebrows knitted with worry. Jeremy could be cold and indifferent, and she was afraid Felicia would suffer for it.
She reached out and gently tugged on Felicia's shirt, signaling her not to keep arguing with Jeremy.
Jeremy glanced down and saw her small gesture just in time.
There was no reaction on his face, but his eyes were dark and unreadable, making it hard for anyone to look at him directly.
He spoke in the same calm tone. "If she isn't the one responsible, there's no need to beg for anyone's trust. The innocent will be proven innocent."
After that, he looked at Melody. He had intended to ask about her arm, but then he remembered she couldn't hear. It was too troublesome.
She sent Melody a message on WhatsApp, reminding her to contact her if anything happened. Then, she left.
Melody followed Jeremy outside at a slow pace.
She walked carefully, worried that she might get into an accident now that she couldn't hear.
In that silent world, even when people were all around, everything felt empty.
Yet, she still wanted to keep up with Jeremy's steps.
He was tall with long legs, so he walked quickly. It was always hard for Melody to stay in step with him, and now it was even harder.
Noticing she couldn't keep up, Jeremy suddenly stopped and looked at his phone, as if he was waiting for her.
Melody stopped beside him. She was so tense that a thin layer of sweat had formed on her forehead.
She looked up to see faint impatience on his brow.
