The moment those words left Melody's mouth, the atmosphere in the car visibly tensed.
Melody stiffened.
Jeremy and Denvin had never gotten along, so it might not have been appropriate to ask him to come with her to pick Denvin up.
She quietly suggested, "Then, I'll go by myself. You can head home first."
She had barely mentioned that when she heard Jeremy's cold voice say, "Do you think Denvin doesn't have an assistant? Why would he specifically call you to pick him up?"
Melody explained, "He's probably drunk, and that's why the call came to me instead."
As Jeremy watched her defend Denvin, a mocking look crossed his eyes.
Only someone as naïve as her would believe Denvin.
When they arrived at Oya, Melody headed straight upstairs to find Denvin. She found him in a private room, eyes closed, slumped on a couch, and reeking of alcohol.
She hesitantly called out his name a few times, but he didn't respond.
This worried her. The hospital had seen cases where people drank so much during social gatherings that they ended up getting alcohol poisoning.
She extended her hand, wanting to check on him, but another hand suddenly caught it.
Looking at Jeremy, he instructed, "Wait by the door for the Wardolfs. I'll watch over him."
…
Before they arrived, he had already contacted the Wardolfs and asked them to pick Denvin up.
Melody was a little worried, knowing that things weren't good between the two men.
Jeremy saw the hesitation, and a hint of mockery appeared in his eyes.
His voice was low as he continued, "You don't have to doubt my professional ethics. I won't stoop so low as to do something to a drunk."
"I didn't say that," Melody mumbled.
She was only worried that when Denvin woke up and saw that the person in front of him was Jeremy, the two would start fighting again.
…
The moment Melody left, Jeremy's gaze fell on Denvin.
