The moment the words left Jeremy's mouth, the car fell into an eerie silence.
Melody opened her mouth, wanting to say something, when Jeremy's stern voice cut in. "Don't say anything."
Thus, she obediently shut her mouth.
…
The reason Calista wanted to see them was so they could go over some of the finer details.
Melody was very cooperative. However, when the matter of Krystal paying 200,000 dollars was mentioned, she reflexively turned to look at Jeremy.
His eyebrows furrowed, seemingly also displeased with this issue.
Lowering her eyes, Melody commented softly, "I only know that 200,000 dollars came from Krystal, but I have no evidence that she told Dennis what to do.
"If there's no evidence, then we'll put it aside for now. The only one we have evidence on now is Dennis, and there's Ben Zimmerman and his wife as witnesses too."
Melody hadn't really intended on doing anything to Krystal. She only wanted Dennis to pay the price.
…
After their meeting with Calista, she got into the car with Jeremy to go home.
She had just entered when her phone started buzzing.
Tiffany and Felicia were sending messages in their group chat asking how her first day at work went.
Melody grinned and replied that it had gone rather well.
Felicia immediately commented, "In that case, there are two things to celebrate about today! Mel, I've got good news! Jason has found his birth parents! They're from Yellerton, and they've been looking for him all these years."
Melody was surprised. "Why didn't anyone tell me this before?"
"You had your own stuff going on then, and the DNA test results weren't out yet either, so Jason didn't want us to tell you in case it was all for nothing."
Melody was genuinely happy for Jason. The chances of kids like them being found by their parents were incredibly low.
Along with Tiffany and Felicia, she kept pestering Jason in the group chat to buy them a meal.
She was so immersed in the bustling group chat that she didn't even say one word to Jeremy for the whole ride.
It wasn't until they arrived at their apartment's parking garage that Melody shared this good news with him.
"Jeremy, Jason has found his birth parents."
Joy colored her face, and even her eyes were shining brightly.
However, Jeremy only spared her a glance before turning away. "What has that got to do with me?" he asked flatly.
The smile on Melody's face slowly fell.
Right. Jeremy had never liked Jason.
She had just been too happy that she couldn't stop herself from sharing the wonderful news with him.
Seeing how disinterested he was, Melody only pursed her lips and changed the subject. "Calista is right. There's no need to dwell on things that lack evidence. So, you don't have to worry. I won't go after Krystal."
Jeremy's expression darkened. The lights in the parking garage were bright, and they only highlighted the coldness in his eyes.
He stared at Melody and asked in a deep voice, "So, what are you trying to say?"
She replied calmly, "Weren't you constantly worried I would go after her? Well, I'm giving you my word now."
The elevator doors happened to open right then. She stepped in, completely ignoring whatever expression Jeremy had.
