Melody immediately looked up.
Jeremy hated staying in hotels. He had always thought they were filthy.
She still remembered he had insisted on bringing his own bedding and having the hotel staff replace everything when the Chesson and Wardolf families traveled together for New Year's.
But here he was with Krystal.
Melody's breathing grew uneven.
Even though she knew Jeremy wasn't that kind of person, her mind still spun with wild thoughts.
"Excuse me, please step aside."
A staff member's voice startled Melody.
She instinctively took two steps back, accidentally bumping into a folding screen and causing a bit of noise.
Jeremy and Krystal turned to look at her.
Krystal's expression cooled. "What are you doing here?"
Melody steadied herself and glanced at Jeremy before quickly lowering her gaze, trying to hide her panic. "I wasn't eavesdropping. I was just about to head upstairs."
Krystal paused. "Are you staying here?"
Before she could respond, Jeremy answered in an indifferent voice, "She's been staying at a hotel for now."
"Why?"
Jeremy barely looked at Krystal before saying in an emotionless voice, "She makes it hard for me to cope at home."
Krystal immediately understood what he meant and said, "That makes sense."
Melody's face went pale, and she tightly pressed her lips together. She wasn't deaf to the underlying mockery in Krystal's tone.
Meanwhile, Jeremy's expression remained unchanged as he reminded Krystal, "Let's go."
Krystal nodded. "Right. Can't waste any more time."
As Jeremy turned to leave, Melody spoke before she could stop herself, "Why are you here?"
Jeremy halted briefly and looked back at her. His face was blank, and his voice was devoid of warmth.
