Melody went back and had her hand treated. It wasn't until after she set up the IV drip for several patients that she took a break. She habitually touched her hearing aids. They had been giving her problems from time to time recently, but it might be because she had worn them for a long time.
Fortunately, she found another gig at Alexis' studio, which would likely help her to save up even faster.
Several doctors needed to discuss a certain patient's condition during lunch, so they sat at their own table.
Melody and Tiffany were chatting over their meal when someone handed an ointment to her. She raised her head, only to find herself looking at Jeremy.
He lowered his gaze and glanced at Melody. He sounded nonchalant when he spoke. "It's just a superficial burn. There's no need for a medicated dressing. An ointment will get the job done."
Melody wanted to make her life easy. So, she applied medicated dressing to the burn on her hand after she applied ointment. Never had she thought that Jeremy would bring her a bottle of ointment too.
She turned to look at him with sparkling eyes. When she responded, she sounded amused. "Thank you."
Jeremy immediately turned away, averting his gaze.
Harold followed him and murmured playfully, "Look who's finally getting it."
Jeremy responded calmly, "It'll be troublesome if her wound is infected. We can't risk the patients in our department."
Melody heard every word he uttered, but she wasn't upset in the least bit. She knew that he wasn't the cold and distant man he appeared to be.
Tiffany noticed the way Melody grinned as she clutched onto the ointment. So, she also smiled. "Gee. Now, I'm jealous. How can you say that there's nothing between you and Dr. Chesson? He has never been this thoughtful."
Then, noon came. Melody dropped by the ward and checked on Stanley again. He was about to take a nap, but when he saw her, he immediately greeted her with a wave. As he had a wrinkly face, it was devoid of amusement, but he did his best to look friendly.
Stanley took his sweet time to pull out a mint candy from under his pillow and handed it to her. "You must be tired from your work. Here, have some candy."
Melody hurriedly turned down his offer. "I can't, Mr. Cornwell."
According to the hospital regulations, medical personnel were forbidden from accepting gifts from the patients.
Stanley looked at her with cloudy eyes. He was old and plagued by his condition, which made it much slower for him to respond.
Ophelia said that she wouldn't have any of it.
With that said, Andrew sounded elated when he gave Melody a call this time. "Mel, don't forget about dinner at home tomorrow. Denvin's back."
Her heart clenched when she heard the name. Denvin Wardolf was the eldest son in the family, and she had always been fearful of him.
He was the typical example of a businessman—highly intelligent. Regallo Group had never been powerful and prestigious until he took over when it slowly grew.
The thing was, in the entire family, he had probably disliked Melody the most.
Andrew noticed her silence, so he asked, "What's the matter, Mel? Are you not happy about it?"
Melody responded dryly, "Of course, I'm happy that Denvin is back. I was just preparing a patient's prescription earlier."
After she hung up on Andrew, she raised her head, only to find Jeremy standing in front of her. She had no idea how long he had been there. With a notebook in his left hand and a pen in his right, it looked like he was jotting down something.
