Seeing the look in his eyes, Chloe knew he needed to leave urgently. Though she wasn't sure if it involved Lucy, she was all too familiar with that expression.
She had seen it countless times in the past three years.
After Michael hung up, Admas asked, "Who's calling you so early?"
"Grandpa, it's Asher. He said there's something urgent going on at Shawn Heavy Industries..." Michael began, but Admas cut him off. "I don't want to hear about your industries."
Chloe watched Michael struggle to find his words. She calmly rinsed her cutlery. "You should go."
Michael looked at Chloe, surprised and grateful. "Chloe, thank you. I'll take care of it quickly and be right back!"
Chloe shook her head. "You don't have to rush back. Take your time. I'll have breakfast with Admas." She wasn't waiting for Michael. Whatever he needed to do had nothing to do with her.
"Wait, you try leaving today and see what happens!" Admas slammed his cutlery down, his face darkening.
Michael said, "Grandpa, there really is an urgent matter at Shawn Heavy Industries."
"What's so urgent? Is the company about to collapse? I asked you to have breakfast with us, yet you are still leaving. Do you not care about me or Chloe?"
Admas' words hit Michael hard. It was true. Michael rarely had the chance to have breakfast with Chloe, and she was about to leave for Mamaica. They might not see each other again for a long time.
Realizing this, he started to think that maybe the issues at Shawn Heavy Industries weren't as important as Chloe.
But just as Michael was about to sit down, Chloe spoke up again. "Let him go. Shawn Heavy Industries has been his focus for years. I'll have breakfast with you."
Admas looked at Michael, his eyes full of resignation.
Chloe looked at Michael. "You should go. Don't worry about us."
When they were married, Chloe said the same thing out of helplessness because she couldn't control him. Now, she didn't want to control him. It didn't matter anymore.
Michael hesitated for a moment but then got up and left.
Admas watched Michael leave and sighed, "Chloe, he is just slow. Don't hold it against him."
Chloe smiled indifferently. She had long known how slow Michael was, and it was no longer her concern whether he stayed that way forever. "It's fine."
Seeing Chloe so nonchalant, Admas felt a pang of sadness. How could he ever get them to remarry now?
"By the way, I'm giving this back to you." Chloe handed Admas a red bank card.
She had come with the intention of returning it to him. She was earning enough from her freelance work to support Jessica, and since she was leaving for Mamaica soon, she wanted to tie up loose ends.
